Got an e-mail from a guy I knew from my ACN days who wanted to join my effort to uncover Sid's next game. Apolyton is the only gaming site I have been going to for the past few days. I've been very busy and can't split my time between many sites.

I told you, not any more. If anyone has infiltrators it is Markos. He is the only one of us who mentioned Pirates!

                  Of course he does.

Also, I mentioned you in a thread I created in the OT forum.

                    tniem,

MoM is shorthand for a game called Master of Magic, published by Microprose (now folded into Infogrames) in 1995. MoM is one of the classic turn-based strategy games of all time according to many (and myself included) where your ultimate goal is to dominate 2 game planes through mystical armies and magical spells. I could spend hours trying to better explain it all but can you ever do a game justice with words alone? Check out the following link for a more complete picture. Remember that 1993 graphics were nothing like what is being done now but get past that! The playability of MoM is simply outstanding. Sadly, though I own the game and was able to play it without sound in Windows 98, my Win XP rig simply refuses to run it no matter what I try... And you know what, as much as I would LOVE an update to the game with better graphics and bells and whitsles and all that, I would be THRILLED to just be able to play the original on a modern machine.

Definately worth checking out! I wouldn't be suprised if you could still find copies around for sale and I know you can get it off the net if you look hard enough. Some people claim it is abandon-ware though I'm sure Sid and Infogrames would disagree so grab the demo if you want to check it out (that's out there as well).

BTW, if anyone reading this has Sid Meirer's email address I would love to send him a quick note of encouragement to pursue a new MoM project. I searched both Infogrames and Firaxis for one but found nothing specific. There is also talk of him updating Pirates. That was another classic game and I certainly wouldn't mind if he took that route either but Master of Magic is one of the greats and I really really hope I someday see another playable version of this great game.

                      tniem,

                      Um, nevermind...

I clearly wasn't playing enough attention to the context of you message (and the fact that you clearly knew all about MoM from earlier in the thread) and decided to throw in a note about MoM.

Anyway, maybe the link will turn someone else onto MoM. That's got to be a good thing...

I like to see MoM2 too. However, I thought I heard a little bird said that Quick Silver (the maker of Master of Orion III) will take over the MoM2 project.

No, no, thank you for your information. I was being serious. I know about MoM in the sense that it is TBS and assumed a fantasy setting by title. But I know nothing of the game other than people (mainly Apocalypse) have rumored that it is somehow involved with Sid's next game and that while Emerich was still at QS he wanted to make the sequel to it after MOO3. So I would like to know more about. Thanks for your info and would welcome more about the story in the future.

                              tniem,

First, glad my post may have helped you discover a great classic game!

How wierd things are some times. I was reading another thread about the decline in quality of today's strategy guides here on Apolyton (I searched and searched for the thread but couldn't find it). One of the guides mentioned was by Alan Emerich (apparently very well know around these parts but that was news to me as well). The following link takes you to Alan's web page where you can read his thoughts on why strategy guides aren't what they used to be.

                              http://hometown.aol.com/aemrich111/a...11/decline.htm) and

All this trips me out a little because until just a few days ago I had never heard of Alan Emerich. But I own one of his books (co-authored) - the Master of Magic strat guide. It is sitting on my shelf in clear sight just 2 feet away. It is the best guide I have read and one of the very few I own.

So in the course of the last couple of days I have rediscovered the ground-swell support for an update to the great game Master of Magic, learned that my favorite strat guide was co-authored by a highly respected man in his field and that this fellow is now working on MOO3, another highly anticipated update to a classic family of games.

The obvious lesson for me has been to stop spending all my time scanning just the Civ III Strategy forum and poke around some of the other Apolyton forums. The bigger revelation has been that Aployton is truly a great community people and a much better source of information for my favorite types of games that I ever thought.

I hope this post doesn't seem to self-serving a rant but I a rabid MoM fan. I knew there were a lot of people out there hoping for an update I just never expected to find so many in one place. More importantly it seems as if there are rumblings that an update may be more likely now then ever before (see link below).

Anyway, I hope you check out some of the MoM resources on the web and who know, you might join the ranks of us who really want to see an update!

I don't want to burst your bubble but Alan got fired from MOO3 because the bosses over there thought he totally botched the game. They are trying to fix it now.

                                Those are the rumors anywho.
