I think we should have it, just so Ron Jeremy can mess with the minds of whoever hovers the cursor over his avatar.

I support that original suggestion. Descriptions for custom avatars wouldn't be bad at all. More advertising space available to sell to my sponsors.

aaglo, are you trying to be somekind of anti-spam watchdog?

BTW, I feel now more supportive than before for those descriptions after recently starting to use my new custom avatar. It really needs it.

What is that avatar...? A crocodile having a Napoleon-complex?

Why not have the same thing with custom avatars? Each profile could include an editable field of up to 25 chars to provide a description.
                yeah! good idea
but why limit it only to custom avatars?
                and why only 25 characters?

I'm against it. The forums will become too heavy to load.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

Just don't put it into the Light stylesheet.

I think it is a great idea!

yeah. you hover over my symbol and a box comes up saying [SMAC-Nautilus Pirates faction symbol]. Andemagnes would say [Civ II-knight] and mattyboy's would say [a cow]. what is that cow anyway?

Actually, doing it the way I proposed would let anyone put whatever they want there, regardless of whether or not their avatar is custom.

                          Nope, Mozilla disquised as Napoleon.

                          A crocodile, hmph...

                            PHP Code:
                            <img src="$avatarurl" border="0" alt="Postcount:  $post[posts]"
                            You mean

                            PHP Code:
                            <img src="$avatarurl" border="0" title="Postcount:  $post[posts]"
The W3C standard specifies title as the tooltip text. I don't know if it works in IE, but alt doesn't work in Opera and that's all that matters.

Ah... I haven't seen title used before, just alt. The default template in vbulletin looks like this:
                              PHP Code:
                              <img src="$avatarurlborder="0" alt=""
Or at least in the version that my website runs.

I was suggesting it to limit to 25 chars and only be for custom so that the loading would not be much slower. What's the point in knowing what the non-custom avatars are?

I figure that an average of perhaps 10-15 extra chars per post would have a trivial load time compared to the avatars themselves.
