I do like the feature, but if you are going to have bogus flags like the NZ maori flag and the Oz aborigine flag, why not go the whole hog and put whatever flag anyone wants in there? Either that or limit the choice to existing countries.

Yeah, I mean....Is Palestine a country? No.....Is the EU a country? No......Is the UN a country? No......If you wont add the USSR flag because it's not a country, then please remove all the bogus flags.
Markos ... It would be nice to have two flags, as a LOT of people identify themselves with two nations. For instance europeans might use their nations flag as well as that of the EU. And I would also use a dutch flag, representing my past.
Solver, I suggest you read UN Resolution 43/177 before you accuse Palestine of not being a country, for the UN clearly recognized it as such...
(You might find article 80 of the UN Charter and article 22 of the League of Nations Covenant interesting as well)
At the very least it's a matter of interpretation, in which case I think being insulted just because someone has a different opinion isn't a very admirable trait...
Just be glad noone is using that flag yet (don't provoke me though )

Hmmm apparantly it isn't
On my normal brightness settings it looks like black, and on the max brightness setting it's (very) dark green while it should be light green.

if you're going to do that, maybe you could allow (as someone said earlier) state/province flags? that way, i could write something witty for my location under where it says "prince" and still tell people where i am . that might, however be a lot of work after getting every country flag there is, to go then and get flags for states/provinces of various countries .

It took a while to answer this, but I've been looking at Belgian flags on the Internet. I'm amazed those are indeed, in many cases, square. But, I haven't seen a Belgian site with a square flag yet... which might be an indication why this is so surprising to me
Well Encarta shows it as square and this pic is from the official Belgium site. Maybe just slightly rectangular, but looks pretty square to me.

The world book encyclopedia states that while most flags are at a height to width ratio of 2:3, Belgium(and others) is 3:4 while Switzerland is 1:1

Well there you go. Thanks Iskandar.

tniem and Iskander, I'm not disputing that some encyclopedias, and 'official' flag sites on the net say it is a 3:4 shape flag, but I dare you to come to Belgium and find me a flag like that here. I guess it is one of those things were one source is responsible for nearly all references, while the every day life is different. I was truely amazed by seeing it on Apolyton in a square form, believe me, I've seen loads of Belgian flags, and not one of them was different from the normal size.
It could be that officially it should be different, but I guess the Royal palace would display it correctly, no? Next time I'll pass there, I'll pay extra attention to the shape
Besides, I'm perfectly happy now that Markos has changed it, and I can't imagine one Belgian complaining now... there is little need to go into a discussion over it now
