• Apolyton Slowdown

Why has Apolyton been so slow off and on for the past couple weeks?

I'm getting 50% packetloss when I ping the server right now...

Oh, haven't you, Markos? Odd... it can't be just me, a few other people did.

It took me 2 refreshes to get to replying to the thread. Losses with pinging. Pageload times are about 2 minutes! Of course, all other sites open as they normally do for me, so it's not me/ISP.

I've been online for straight 13 hours now, and it's a pain in the a*s to browse Apolyton today - I saw a few threads I really wanted to see, and other than that, browsing is tough. I noticed one period of relief some 7 hours ago, but other than that, it's very slow.

Page loading time for this page: 43 seconds. Ahh. The biggest I've seen today was nearing 3 minutes.

The past couple weeks there have been like 2 minute periods where Poly is totally inaccessable, and then inbetween there will be another 2 minute period with insanely high packetloss and slowness.

Apolyton's fine right now for me. As I said, it goes in bursts.

And I did run a traceroute when it wasn't responding, and I had 80-130ms ping on all sites before it began timing out on apolyton itself.

I didn't notice anything either, but it must be just the times I'm on.

I think the last time I had problems accessing the site was before the server move... (well, Apache was down last week or so but I was FTPing then so it didn't really affect me )

I don't know if it is server-related or something else, but I am constantly having trouble with incomplete page loads. I use Netscape 4.79 at home, IE 5.x at work. Netscape seems worse, but I often have to reload before getting the whole page even with the recent version of IE.

Often hangs at a point where the dialogue says "93% of 167k" or some such. Posts with attachments seem to cause the most problems, but not necessarily the attachments themselves. Earlier this morning I tried literally 10 times to load It' s a Mad Mad Scxn Game! p.5, just to see if it would load once since I'd had problems yesterday afternoon.

Currently it again goes perfectly for me, I loaded this page in a few seconds. Markos: I tried pinging Apolyton during period when I could hardly access at all yesterday, and got like 40% packet loss.

                          Thankfully it's OK now.

                            What period was that?

edit: or rather why I haven't noticed the problem

For some strange reason, some people haven't noticed. Oh well, today it's again in bursts for me - from fast to average, but at least no longer too slow.
