      <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">function spoiler2(msg) { spoilerwindow = window.open('','spoilerwindow', 'toolbar=no,width=400,height=100,directories=no, status=no, scrollbars=yes, resize=yes, menubar=no'); spoilerwindow.document.write ('<HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Spoiler</TITLE> </HEAD><BODY>' +msg+ '</BODY></HTML>'); }</script>This one is slower...

      <A HREF="" onClick="spoiler2('<IMG SRC=http://apolyton.net/forums/apolyton_cs-logo_2-300.gif>'); return false;">Test</A>

I still like the <A HREF="" onClick="alert('This does not allow HTML'); return false;" OnMouseOver="window.status='Spoiler'; return true;" OnMouseOut="window.status=''; return true;">Spoiler</A>

                John,

I always use a text editor to write long messages before pasting them into my browser. In this way your work is still saved in case of browser crashes. You should try it some time.

If a [Spoiler] tag is used, the reader has to highlight the blacked out portion anyway, so extra steps still needed to be taken.

Huh? The point of the spoiler tag is so that the reader will have to highlight the blackened portion of it. That is the whole point, so that people who do not want to know what happened on Buffy or in AOTC can read the thread without having to worry about having their eye float to this really tempting piece of information.

In short, it is nothing more than a courtesy extended to the readers by the poster and, unlike your suggestion, it does not entail having to download something from the net onto your hard drive.

                    Sorry
As you probably spotted I fininished up copping out and using the ` character ... It's clever, but a spoiler tag would be much easier and allow html inside the spoiler - that would be very dangerous, but fun ...

Grrr!! please change your avatar back - it is somewhat offensive.

So, you agree that extra steps are needed to read the spoiler text.

Whenever you read a webpage it is already downloaded to your computer. It is not like opening up a potential security hole.
