I think the forum does bring out a nasty streak in me, in other forums things are often friendlier, but here everybodies such a wise-alec smart-ass know-it-all and they all have their "OpINiONz" that they have to write big F*k-off bodies of text about- and many of em appear to have had a humour-removal operation.... and as for the Politics! >shudder<
But then maybe thats just the type of person that is attracted to turn based stratergy games, and seeing how I have three such titles myself- which I enjoy playing... perhaps I will shuttup now.Freedom Doesn't March.

I'm much nastier in person than on these forums. Aside from sarcastic remarks there's not much you can do to someone (whos obviously an idiot) that's on the other side of the world. As a result I'm attending anger management and learning to put up with comments here that I wouldnt normally receive.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Sometimes I think we are all a little f-ed in the head. But besides that I have noticed that if you get in a discussion (non-flame) that people will generally respect (but not agree with) your point. Those who have the biggest problems are those who post outrageous things and never get into a dialouge about them or those who repeat the same thing over and over.
Nah, we're all f-ed in the head.Sorry....nothing to say!

Also, there is no way to convey tone in type. I know for sure I have interpreted posts the worst way possible at times, when maybe they weren't meant so bad. For this, smilies are a must to convey tone!

Now, as for the topic: IMHO... if you allow someone to frustrate you to the point that you can't make calm, intelligent and rational argument, then that person has already won! If we spent the same amount of concern to detail and strategy on our words that we do on our games, more points might be made more concisely and with fewer rebuttals.
But then again, I've been hiding in this cave for 40 years and this is my only real contact with the outside world... so what do I know? You have not converted a man merely because you have silenced him.

Now this is in Apolyton/Community, it loses all meaning. Apolyton in general is quite pleasant, and only in a few OT threads have I felt the need to be nasty.Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

Smilies are for girly-men, you miserable maggot.
But then I realized they serve a real purpose. Like they say that your actual words are only a small part of the message, and people get more from your tone and even your body language than the words themselves.
Smilies are a way to convey tone in an all type message. That serves a valuable and real purpose.
However I understand ... I can see how it might be hard for a hulking manly REAL MAN to use them. I still don't like to myself. Just remember it makes your communication weaker.
I'm guessing the miserable maggot thing is a joke given the context of the thread ... ha ha haGood = Love, Love = Good

oh definitely.
it's often hard to read tone on the internet..so being the pessimist i am, i tend to read statements as harsher than they were probably intended. Perhaps it's just me, but it seems some people are only here TO troll..but i might be over-reacting.
and then when it comes to global politics..or politics of anykind, many tend to be intensely patriotic toward their own nation or area. when some of that patriotism conflicts, things can get pretty harry."Speaking on the subject of conformity: This rotting concept of the unfathomable nostril mystifies the fuming crotch of my being!!!
