  • Can't see certain avatars

Some avatars only appear as crosses.

Its to do with the type of file, I can see gifs but not jpgs (or is it the other way around ) - Anyway, certain avatars only come up as little red crosses, whilst others show the actual avatar.

I know its not Poly because it only happens on my home computer.

    Can anyine help me?

No help here... But I actually experienced the same problem today. I had the problem at university, using Netscape 4.7x (on UNIX). I didn´t really see whether it was only GIFs/JPGs, but if it was, it´s only GIF´s that didn´t display, because my avatar didn´t display, and that´s a GIF.

Actual your avatars are *.php files and not *.gif's. That's a problem with Apolyton's current server it can't display these attached images properly if you try to avoid M$-stuff.

I have the same problem, but it seems that the faster the page is loaded, the less problems you get. For instance if I open a picture thread, I get the first say 20 images fine, and then the rest have given up. If I reduce the number of posts per page, everything goes fine. I think it quits after about 5 minutes?

The problem is a lot of browsers aren't good enough to read the content headers, so they screw up loading the images.

The only avatar on this thread I can't see is yours.

I was using IE v5. I just installed IE v6. They still don't appear.

Is it anything to do with settings?

That's odd. I just tried it with IE 5.5 (and I thought I deinstalled this version). I had no problems with avatars using IE5.5, Netscape 6.2 and Opera 5. I have only a problem with Netscape 4.5. One note about before avatars were disabled I had no problems with costumized avatars in Netscap 4.5. This problem exists since they were enabled again. And the only thing that changed was the server. There are also problems with attachments since the server move, and this problem appairs with all browsers that I can use. So that is just a problem to not have enough time to write the code properly.

                        Bump

I still can't get to see Hydey in a bowling shirt, not even right click "show image" works.

Wierd. I have that problem sometimes, but the "show picture" usually fixes it.

                            I've resorted to using Netscape.

Aside : For some reason the madban smilie flashes in Netscape, freaky.

                              Bump.

Back on IE as Netscape screws up the post reply page. Anyone had any more thoughts on why my browser won't display certain avatars. If not, why not!!!
