another chance spoiled!
In history today i doscovered that my univeristy does a study abroad program in england during the summer....I jumped at the chance...because if i end up in england for grad school..i think i should at least visit first to see if i'd like it. I figured this would be the perfect chance...
until i looked at the price tag of it all! ack! about $6000!!! for 5 forking weeks!!! *sigh* someday.
In Cambridge per chance? We get loads of US summer students. They take up the undergrad rooms, eat the same stuff the undergrads eat and go around looking at castles/museums/shakespeare plays. I reckon 5 weeks rent for undergrads with food would be about £400 (about $700). They make serious cash on US students looking to expand their horizons a bit.
I'm sure Cambridge isn't the only University to have cottoned on to that... although no doubt the banks of the Cam have a greater appeal than most other places...
I think Cambridge and Oxford are probably the main ones. They're the only ones that are really well known in the US), they have plenty of history on site so to speak, and because of the college system they have a lot more accomodation available than "normal" universities (here the undergrads are guaranteed acc. for their entire stay, whereas in Manc we only got it for a year, 2 if you were lucky and wanted to).
DF: Dm aint gonna make it. finances just arn't allowing on any level nor is the school/work schedule. I have a standing date 1 - 6 pm every sunday to work in addition to loads of homework that i'm just eeking out right now (when i'm constantly working on them as well. come on..you guys have to notice i'm on alot less)..
i think, david, that once in england you will have to drug all the brits and mail them back to me so we can have an impromtu texas meet.

I think I prefer it here as no matter where you go, there's always at least 30 people you know in there. Whereas back home you're lucky to bump into anyone in Manchester...
Of course that might just be because there are just 4 nightclubs in Aberystwyth.
And if I didn't mind pop and dance once a week I probably wouldn't be enjoying it...
Well, if we follow the tried-and-tested formula, we'll meet between midday and two, and keep going until either we have to leave or get sick and tired of each other. Anyone else have any input...?
Well I will be driving, so I don't have to worry about catching a train. Of the two meets I have attended:
The July London meet ended before it was dark ~9pm, much to the chagrin of Rich who still wanted to talk about himself. The November Leeds pub crawl continued to about 10-11pm so who knows perhaps this one may last until midnight.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
