I agree. Every person, upon reaching custom avatar status (500 posts, or a year), shall get to choose their own title, subject to peer review (all other custom avatarers), and if after three choices, they cannot get a title that adequatly suits their personality or contribution to the site, then the peers vote a selection commitee, who then propose three more title suggestions, which are then voted upon by the community as a whole, via a poll here in the Apolyton/Community forum.

I dont ahve Jan 1970 so your argument falls down, i want the originals here to be recognised ...
I know the score around here, I know who is who, better than most 1970s and I have made my mark on the Apolyton forums, both off- and on-topic. I should, hypothetically, be just as eligable for the 'elder' title.
you dont need the elder title, elder is to do with age (in this case age of regsitration) not how much of a mark you hav emade. you have been rewarded with an emporers title for all your posts
Or what about MLeonard or MichaeltheGreat, both registered in the latter part of 1999, who can most certainly be described as significant members of the community, a damn sight more than many Jan 1970s.
again each of these two have a title showing their role here
So no, this would not be a sensible move, and I am sure the admins/mods would agree with me. Each case should be judged on it's merits.
the merit is that they joined before apolyton existed jan 1970 is before most of us had a computer .....

Prvovost, "Blah, blah, blah. Are the elitists powering up again so no 'newbie' such as even myself should get a look in. Oh what a surprise, you have a Jan 1970 after your title."

Oh what a surprise, you're near deity. Maybe you’re the real elitist around here and just anxious the value of your deity status would be diminished.

Either that or you failed to grasp what my proposal is all about. The elder status would complement the current titles based on spam stimulating post counts, not replace it. The intention behind an age based title is not to reward your current contribution to the forums, something which post-counts also fails to achieve, but to reward longevity.
The 1970’ers are the founders of the community, they created its traditions, preserved its heritage and they are a fountain of wisdom and knowledge of our history. My conclusion is that they ought to be respected as such.

Wombat, you're proposal is a fine one, but I believe it's a bit elaborate and thus impractical.

          too complicated

hope you werent serious there IW.....

And if number of posts equals status then i guess for the past month i am the most influential

but PC does not represent contribution, not in al lcases anyway, we know all of ALexander Horses posts are valauble and he justly deserves the title of diety, but do we think all posters who get to 10000 posts are deitys NO... most will be dirty rotten spammers

... and some have contributed massive amounts of verbiage without actually having any impact beyond making a thread longer. One high-ranking person has posted essentially the same message thousands of times (in a nutshell, "I'm great, you suck"). It seems that much of what some deity/emperor players post is just spam spam spam. (If they contributed before my arrival, then I stand corrected.)

How to separate contribution from blather? One might suggest the number of words per post, but that would be too imprecise. It seems that using post count isn't really going to resolve this.

              This is getting old

All of this just makes me think that I was right in my belief that titles cause nothing but problems, and PC is a waste of time.

You want titles? Here are some, all that is needed:

              For Mark and Dan: Administraters/Owners

For all the forum mods: Moderator

              For everyone else: Apolyton poster

              Enough of this stuff.

No Ras, it's democracy, and freedom, not communism.

And to get back on point, I'm perfectly serious about my proposal. We debate this endlessly, but the fact is, PH is right, there are a few elist people here who cling to titles, and would never go for it.

Democracy isnt about us all having the same title, thats communism , freedom is about being able to post absolutely whatever we want. we cant do that either here as these are private forums not public ones, it is a priveledge to post here not a right...

to suitably honour those who have been here from the start, and seen all the changes and yet stayed with it, it would be nice to give them a new title..... not to remove the titles already earned by the mutli posters who have posted their way to emporer and above with very meaningful posts both at OT when it counted and here on Topic.

come on mark/dan/ming etal please give this serious consideration !!!

Not entirely serious, and I realise it will never be accepted, but that would be democratic, rather than the kill-all-post-counts communist approach.

won't somebody think of the elders?

I'm extremely disappointed so many people engage themselves in ideological warfare instead of caring to bring recognition to the 1970'ers by granting them a well-earned title.

Not entirely. As I said previously, it's too elaborate and it lacks transparency so it's open to external manipulation. A standard exams would be much fairer because it ensures a level playing field and it also simplifies the entire process thus making it more transparent.
