for the time being, please post in a free-space server

Would it be complicated to make it possible? Posts longer than 20k cannot be edited and should be transformed to attachements.
you mean that an existing post that is over 20k can not be edited? as for new posts, there is the "check message length" link which allows you to check if you are close to the limit

      Exactly, I mean existing posts.

      Edit:
Could you allow a <B>html file</B> as an extension?
My idea about transforming long posts (as "Info: diplomats and spies" thread) into attachments wouldn't work well otherwise.

      • Slowwthinker,

There are quite a number of web hosting services that provide indivduals with free spaces for personal webpages. The most famous one being Geocities but there are many others.

I don't think you should post long posts here. Put them up at a free web hosting service and post a link here. 300K is a LOT of text. Are you sure a lot of peopel will read that?

        Markos,

The "Reply with Quote" function doesn't include the time and date of the quoted post. Could you correct that? Thanks.

150K (the current limit) is a LOT of text too. But Gastrifidis has some space consuming html (or xml, i don§t know it) formatting

Of course, I think they <B>do</B> read it. I speak about "Info:..." threads.

          • I don't know. Personally I hate to read something of that size. I rather read a few smaller documents. It's much easier to mark your progress since I can end sessions between articles. Very hard to do that for large online articles.

Anyway, do you need all that HTML formatting? Couldn't you do it with just plain text? Or alternatively, create PDF files from your documents and provide links to them?

Why not allow people with more then 500 posts to have a higher limit. In that way no newbeis will get access to more memory.

              • I seem to have been skipped, so allow me to repost...

                IE 5.5, Win98 SE

I seem to be unable to vote in polls - I just get a white screen with what looks like a valid address, and checking afterwards reveals that my vote was indeed not counted. This happens in all polls, including newly created ones, so it is not that they have been closed.

Also, I am still getting the "Administrator: You MUST revert you modifyoptions template" message when I try to change my avatar (and probably my options - this applied to that as well last time I tried).

                • 3. Can I add an attachement to a post with no attachement or to a post which attachement was deleted?
That should be possible, because I had some trouble with Opera5. I wasn't able to attach a file with this browser. After my second failure with Opera5 I was successful with Netscape6. The effect was two useless extra posts for me, because I wasn't able to attach a file to an existing post.

By the way Markos I want to change my signature (I know I leave the topic) and Dale is also waiting to see his files in the CTP2 database, unfortunatly you promissed him to update the DB soon for four weeks.

If you want to see the result of my trials here is my thread:

Maybe you are also interested in this attachment. It deals with something broken on the CTP2 pages. For more information see my thread (I typed enough that isn't on topic in this thread.)

online?? you can simply take the page from the cache or save it...

I placed my html at my web space. But there are people that consider to get their own web space complicated.

                    • Chowlett,

So you're saying that after you push the "Vote" button you end up staring at a blank screen?

                      Martin,

Unable to add attachments seems to be a browser specific intermittent problem. With Moz 0.9 I could do it sometimes but not always. With IE4 I can do it all the time. I suggest that when you attach a file, check the thread to see if that has actually occurred.

                      SlowThinker,

Even if I view a large HTML document offline from cache there is still no easy way to mark my progress. PDFs are somewhat better because I can attach notes to them. I still hold that large documents should be broken down into smaller pieces no more than one or two screens.

It would be more laborious for creators...

                          • Slowthinker,

It would be, but you get more people reading your stuff that way. Depending on the amount of formatting you want to add there might not be a lot of additional work. You can always use stylesheets to simply your tasks.

                            Chowlett,

That also happened to be before. Repeated application of "reload" worked for me IIRC.

                            • Well, I've given up and turned off almost all of the new goodies. I like my new avatar, but I just don't have time to wait for new pages to load.
