I already mentioned before that I am willing to pay for my fun here. No response on that.
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>we do not have the technical ability to have paying members right now(e.g. we would have to have a way for the server to recognizes paying members and offer them something else than the regular page(example: a page without ads)), and i personally hate the idea of having to resort to donations. fortunately our monthly bottom line is not negative yet, so...

      Franses:

You make a valid point and I agree with it; however, it is not that I mind the complaints as much as I mind the nature of it.

The problem is that we keep hearing the same things over and over, and we have tried to make it clear that it is something that is beyond our control -- we are simply trying to survive these lean times.

Dan & Mark, have you actually told Gamestats that you are loosing customers and banner views due to this? For example, instead of visiting your site daily, with what probably amounts to at least 100 banner views/day, I'm not planning to reappear for at least a week, and then only to see if the pop-up is gone. I understand that this is not your problem (other than all us whining about it), but maybe if Gamestats & UGO realize they are loosing money by accepting these kinds of ads, they'll actually get their ass in gear to do something about it.

          See you in a week.

I love webwasher....no more popup ads....I can actually concentrate on the threads now.

I'm going on a Wanderjahr, hopefully this problem will be solved when I wander back to Apolyton.

Well, I wondered whether others were as exasperated as myself. I see that they are. RAH is correct in this business. The popups have effectively driven me away so that I no longer visit the site as much as in former times. The popup is counterproductive. I now have a profound hatred of ebay, and this is entirely irrational, because I know nothing about them, except that their advertising has made participation on this site personally undesirable. The weekly, or perhaps monthly interval seems like the only acceptable solution for me.

I am certain that others are also coming to the same conclusion.

My sympathies to the owners of the site, but this kind of advertising is intolerable. Literally.

Do you know their e-mail? I wasn't able to find it...

I must agree with Exile. I decreased the frequency of visiting the Apolyton. I needn't wait for e-bay so often with my 33.6 modem.

                    Mark,

Can you tell us whether our complaints help and how long we will still have to look at this pop-up window? I ask because I and others seem to be out of solutions and I found a working alternative for my games outside Apolyton. As you know I prefer to stay with Apolyton and am willing to give you the time you need to solve it. Yes, I know that you can not do anything about it but.... what do you expect from us? To accept it? I won't! No matter how much I hate to quit my frequent visits to Apolyton.

complaining to us wont do any good, since you would be complaining to the wrong people.

I just sent a complaint to webmaster@ebay.com since ebay does not seem to have a special email for complaints. (and keeping the popup ad in mind, I'd say that's probably a very smart move of them! )

Above email will probably work though. If it bounces back, I'll send my complaint to postmaster@ebay.com
1 of the 2 is sure to work, I would say.

Just get something like Norton Internet Security. Right now I have it set to disable popups in general, unless clicked directly with a link. Effectively removes popup ads. In addition, there's the Ad Blocker feature, which stops ads from being displayed on the page. If you find a new ad system that doesn't get blocked, you just click n' drag the ad to the 'Ad Trash' for Norton Internet Security and that type of ad is blocked in the future as well. Haven't seen a banner ad in ages. :P

Plus it has the obligatory personal firewall and browser privacy enhancements (can configure it to block sites from accessing the referring site, your browser version, your e-mail, etc).

How about we click through whenever possible, but never BUY anything from
                              the more offensive advertisers?

Time to clarify a point: it is not GameStats that chooses to have pop-up ads at all -- almost no gaming network has this kind of control. In GS' and ever other UGO affiliate's case, this is an entirely UGO matter/decision and they are the ones that should be hearing your concerns.

This is not to say that we shouldn't hear them at all necessarily, but UGO are the ones to go directly to, and first, to deal your complaints about the pop-ups etc.
