  • E-Bay Pop-up Ad Window ...

    Everyone:

... is really annoying and, secondly, doesn't make any sense when it pops up *behind* the main window. Just who the hell put these ad-makers through ad school? ACME Fly-By-Night College Degree School?

Pop-ups s*ck. They s*ck even more when the people making 'em don't have the wherewithal to put the pop-ups in *front* of the main window.

    Sheesh.

I know we've had the discussion about various ads endlessly in the past, but I'd still like to say that the owners of this site should listen more to what the registered users have to say about specific ads and the trend we're experiencing where the ads tend to be more and more annoying/disruptive. IMO it's not enough to advise us to mail the company who paid for the ad...

MarkG, do you want pop up-ads to appear on your site or not? This is not a matter of Gamestats handling the advertising or ebay selecting to pay for a pop up-ad at this time. It's a question of do you, the owners, want pop up-ads?

Send a mail to ebay my foot.

whether i like it or not, i cant do much about it. in the end, hundrerds of mails to ebay are better than me complaining to gamestats(asking them to complain to ugo)

If it bothered you enough, you could change your affiliation and ad provider. We're on a downslide here with Gamestats/UGO, it'll only get worse I fear.

And there's got to be other more userfriendly as well as lucrative ad providers out there. The competition is there, the question is do you want to take a look at it?

I wouldn't suggest that, winston. I've been looking for a new host for CGN for months now because I can't get ad revenue with my current situation, and with all the changes in the gaming industry recently, not only have I been unsuccessful, but it seems next to impossible to boot.

I'm sorry to hear that reismark.

The point is however, it could be considered instead of just putting on a scratched record of "I can't do anything about it". If it's your site, you can do something about it if you're willing to - although it may be difficult.

If you don't do anything to check alternatives out from time to time, you're at risk of becoming enslaved to your current affiliation and advertizer. And UGO is unscrupulous when it comes to advertizing. The examples of this are legio. Do the owners want to continue down this path or do they want to check the alternatives?

              Where there's a will, there's a way. Is there a will?

The current buzz in such ads is that perhaps small click on banners will be replace with larger ads contaning more of the targeted info and taking up more screen at the website.

You're so direct sometimes, you know that, right?

Anyway, all I got was their form response. Apparently I was one of 10,981 e-mails received that day. I feel like a number, I really do. Anyway, I highly doubt E-Bay designs its own ads ... that kind of stuff is usually shipped out to el cheapo non-union slave outfits in southeast Asia.

I thought I was loosing my mind or that I drank some bad moonshine when I saw the ebay ad pop up. I have never complained about the ads here because I accept them as neccessary for the site. But pop up ads are the worst. They are the lowest form of internet advertising. And to see them pop up on my screen and not be on a porn site is disturbing. I would email ebay, but I don't want to open my mailbox tomorrow and see that I have 400 new messages.

CYBERAmazon: Thanks for the thread man. Now I know that I am not going crazy and that I won't have to throw out my party drinks.

The pop-ups have just forced me to activate the Proxomitron and bust allads. You'll say it's not fair, but I am browsing on multiple windows and I can't tolerate chaos on my taskbar. I would never click on such an ad anyways; I don't have a credit card so I wouldn't buy anything, even if I wanted to.

This is out of control. If this isn't corrected hastily, I may be left with no choice but to download proximitron; I didn't want to have to take this action for the sake of Apolyton...
