  • New, Devious Ebay Popup bypasses popup blocker systems

The bastards! They stopped using OnLoad, and now conventional ad blockers won't remove them any more! Thank the makers of Proxomitron they have configurable filters...

'kay, been trying to create a Proxomitron filter to fix it. No luck. Any clues?

My Proximitron blocks them quite nicely. Maybe you just need a new version.

I think the time has come to start sending parcel bombs to ebay. I am still not plagued with popup ads though. Until they get rid of the damn things, I will continue to block them...

                yes it does

do you post with multiple windows open?

this is what seems to cause the most problems. sometimes when I click on the text box to start typine, the cursor mysteriously disappears. I just don't have time to post like some of yous. Even a couple of minutes this ad slows me is valuable time for me.

Look like MarkG won't be in a good mood, after reading this.

Well this is the price of irritation. The banner ads really don't bother me in the slightest, and from time to time there can even be something interesting up there! But until those pop-up ads go, proxomitron stays activated, simple as that...I'm voting with my feet.

Apolyton receives money for it, so blocking it blocks some $ coming to Apolyton... And there's never interesting in ads, they're all anyways for Americans.

MarkG shouldn't be angry about this at all.

I posted that I was using the Proxomitron almost a year ago and I asked him if it could cause any problem with Apolyton and he didn't have any problem with it.

BTW, the Proxomitron BY ITSELF is not very good for being 'anonymous'(i.e. IP address, computer and browser type, computer 'name' etc. are still viewable unless you want to go through the hassle of setting it to run through an 'anonymous' public server. And many 'anonymous' servers are in fact not, so check your proxy server on the many pages that will check what a remote observer can view about you) just for filtering HTML pages.

                          let' clear things out

if you use any kind of program to kill the pop-ups it is uncertain if you are hurting apolyton or not. ugo might be counting the impression based on whether the pop-up loads or not. in that case if you kill it, not only are we not payed for it, but you also extend the period that the pop-up will run. if you dont see it, another civer will!

now, if you're using any kind of program to kill all ads(pop-ups and regular ones), you are of course abusing your privilidge to use and blatantly killing this site...

But Mark, why popup? 2 banners that don't pop wouldn't have so many critics. And, I doubt if there's any way you can prohibit people from using banner killers. Unfortunately, you can't. I don't kill it, mjust because I love Apolyton, but I x it as soon as it loads.
