    let' clear things out

if you use any kind of program to kill the pop-ups it is uncertain if you are hurting apolyton or not. ugo might be counting the impression based on whether the pop-up loads or not. in that case if you kill it, not only are we not payed for it, but you also extend the period that the pop-up will run. if you dont see it, another civer will!

now, if you're using any kind of program to kill all ads(pop-ups and regular ones), you are of course abusing your privilidge to use and blatantly killing this site...
    <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
    Abusing?? Is it a joke??

    OK, let' clear things out:
If we are supposed not to kill ads, then you should announce it in the Apolyton FAQ firstly! It is first time I hear about it. Maybe, I would choose another forum, but I don't want to do it now when I am established here.

Regular advertisement is OK, but pop-up is a terrible thing. (BTW, Ebay crashes my multi-desktop system.) I have speculated what people who brings pop-ups into forums expect. Are they thinking a little? Pop-up may be succesful on sites that are visited infrequently by individual persons. In the case of forum, if you get a pop-up 10th or 20th time within current day you may hate them only.
When I will be really upset I will click on the pop-up and I will stop to buy and to use everything they advertise for.

Hmmmm... an established "settler"... time for the standard DL search

Again, they have no control over the ads provided by their ad server. While they aren't big fans of these types of ads either, they at least pay the bills so we can continue to get this site for free...

After complaining to Ebay about the popup ad, and giving them Apolyton's URL as an example of a site where it pops up, I received this email back:

            <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
            <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
            </font>Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write us at eBay. I will be glad to
            help as best I can.

At first glance, the banner ads and links on our site might seem
            unusual.

We believe that these types of ads and links will bring more customers
for your items. While eBay presents ads and links to other services,
these services are also presenting eBay ads and links on their sites.
This means more people clicking to eBay to view and to bid on your
            items.

We also believe that these ads and links provide more variety and
understand that many of you will click through these ads and links to
check them out. These services provide items that are not necessarily
available on eBay and we wholeheartedly encourage you to shop around for
            exactly what you need.

We are confident that our relationship with Link Exchange will benefit
our community through more bidding activity and more item variety.

It has been a pleasure helping you. Good luck on all your eBay
            transactions.

            Regards,

                Mark,
Did your location really change, suddenly? Pretty interesting. Or do I just have migrene caused by banners . And please excuse the harsh tone of the crowd here. Probably you really aren't the one to blame here.

                Narck,
Nice message you have got. But I would still be very surprised if I click on the banner, order Civ III, and they ship it all the way to Latvia .

                Crowd,
Calm down. MarkG and DanQ don't decide on which ads to put here, as we can see, so they're not to blame. Just let them live in peace, as without the ad, Apolyton might die, and that's something most of us don't at all want.
