Topic starters in the OT Archives
    Until 12 January 2001
Total of topic starters in the archives: 235

    Notes:
    • As you can see DL's and officialy changed aliases were not counted together (with the exception of Nimrod/Nimrod. which was very tedious to discriminate). Anyone interested can add them up.
    • No special care is taken for any thread that was archived twice or that has many sequels in the archives. This explains the large count that some posters recieve, f.e. reismarck and Mao.
    • The top (one or two) topic-starters are highlighted, for each letter of the alphabet.

These are the top-ranking topic starters, all with double-digit counts:

      What this FAQ is for:

Well, I was intrigued by AH's complaints that he was unable to start a respectable topic. I commented that that was untrue and that browsing the OT archives would prove that. I then got the idea of counting how many archived topics has each poster started. This took me a few hours, of course, but I had that irresistible urge...

This FAQ may be useful as one (imperfect of course but still much better than any other I know of) way to compare the quality of the OT posters. You see, getting in the archives, almost equals immortality, in electronic terms. For those people that care for such things, I guess that this will be invaluable. I do not wish to make further comments on this, however.

Of course this has to be updated somehow, when more threads get archived, so if Mark, Dan, or Narck want it to keep existing, they can post updates (the easiest way is to be updated by the person who archives the threads themselves). Similar FAQs for other section's archives can be posted too.

Just for the record, AH is indeed one of the top ranking topic-starters. So no worries, horsey!

Also, I you haven't noticed, Yours Truly has 0 topics in the archive so far.

I'm surprised I got 4 threads in the archives, as I don't tend to start many. On the whole I prefer contributing to other people's, but I wouldn't say that fact relegates me to the status of "low quality".

However my filthy sense of humour might...

          Interesting... but...

There are a couple of reasons for a thread to be archived.
          1) Somebody sends a request to an Admin or Mod, and they feel it is worth while (very liberal judgement)

          2) An Admin or Mod thinks something is worth saving
          (very rare event)

          3) (and MarkG can correct me) When threads are deleted in course of normal housecleaning, the longer threads are sometimes archived instead of a deleted.
Since there are many threads that have to be deleted, it is difficult to make a decision on a thread by thread basis... number of posts, and title probably are the determining point.
In the Civ forums, I always read through the threads before I delete them. If they have any long term value, I archive them, and then delete the rest. However, this is far more difficult on the OTF because of the total number of threads.

So to place any "value" or "opinion" on the number of threads archived by poster... well, it's a stretch at best
          Keep on Civin'
RIP rah, Tony Bogey & Baron O

A lot of those archived threads were requested by the originator. Quality is not nesessarily the discrimanator. (Desire to have name in lights is.) If you could tell which threads were archived other than by request of the originator that would be a good quality metric.

as ming said, the choice depends on me remembering that that was a good thread and/or having many posts and/or having a title that suggests that it is a good thread.
perhaps not the best criteria, but i'm not giving any oscars either...

Good work Axi, how long did it take you to make this thread?

I thought I had more threads however:

                        such as:
