I should add that I am a reformed character and I have no DLs here. May the great IP sniffer in the sky be my witness.

I think the thread topic is an oxymoron. Since almost nobody DESERVES to be here at the Olympus of forums, no banning could be errorneus.

Why DLs are disliked? It has a lot to do with basic honesty, I think. The main use for DLs at ACOL (Beside Simple, once-of gags) seems to be to flame, insult or hurl abuse at people without taking the least bit of responsibility for yourself. With your "real" login you've built up a persona, a reputation, and by making these essentially anonymous threats and abuses you're sidestepping your own involvement.
A lot of fun can be had with DLs. However, most of this fun can be had with Apolyton DLs as well (setting up a persona, developing its personality, etc.), but without the unpleasant side to ACOL DLs. The trick is, setting up an e-mail adress and an IP is easy, but not easy enough for just creating a spur-of-the-moment flame-the-world DL. In this way, the good Apolyton DL will become much more of an Alter Ego than then thinly veiled flimsities at ACOL ever are.

But even these supposedly "benign" double logins are illegal here. So, on the basis that one is a good 'polytoner and not an evil ACOLer, there must be another reason.
Unless one is suggesting that Apolyton posters are, in some particular way, superior? Or, maybe, you have a lot of well hidden and extremely amusing DLs here that you think will get caught in the trawl?
Interesting concept all the same. In the meantime I hope you'll come and debate the matter at the ACOL-Apolyton drinking contest late January next year.

Who the hell are all these people? Could someone possibly provide an idiot's guide to what handles people are known as on Apolyton and ACOL? I'm very confused....
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
The confusion is deliberate.
And MikeH & Brian....you guys brought this on youselves, I think....MarkG doesn't know much about ACOLytes, so he's bound to take what you say very literally

I wasn't even logged on at the time!

a clarification: the "Tear" login was disabled as DL along with the initial banning of "JEtW"(now "Brian the..."). It has nothing to do with MikeH, which was done yesterday by mistake. as much as I can believe that "Tear" is a different person in ACOL(and i have no reason not ot), the "Tear" login on Apolyton has far too many similarities with the various DL's of "JEtW" to ignore

MarkG,
See my above posts.
I can see your point but she ISN'T my double login. The Tear on ACOL is the same as the Tear here = Nadia. If not, then why did she post on ACOL that she had been restricted? If it was somebody different then they wouldn't have been trying to use that login would they?.

Just tell her what she has to do to get her login back. She's paranoid enough as it is.

(btw I am not JetW - that was a DL of the poster now known as Brian the Bug Master. Wouldn't like people to think I was actually like that. )
Now to the business at hand.
To my knowledge, Nadia has never behaved badly on here or irritated anyone which would be a real first for one of my DLs, wouldn't you say? Still, I can see that there would be some "physical" similarities from the logins because, well, there were some similarities. As you will see...
Same IPs? Yep, no doubt. Reason - same computers, same address (virtual and physical). Nadia is a friend of my wife's and often a visitor to our house when she first moved to London. When she had accommodation problems in October she stayed with us for a couple of weeks until they were sorted.
My wife and I have two computers and we have two different ISPs. However, only one computer has a colour printer. So, even when there is just the two of us, we swap computers to use that printer or if one or other of the internet connections is slow. Result, I can and do post from either computer. So, to the extent that she posted much at all then, would Nadia when she was at our place. I guess (am not sure) that Nadia might have posted from the same two IP addresses that I have.
So that's the story. I bet you have Nadia recorded as the same mix of IPs as me and concluding not unreasonably, but incorrectly, that she and I are the same person. Well, we’re not and she is much better looking. Not as exciting as the grand double login conspiracy but real life is so much more mundane.
If you are banning her for the reason that she had the same IP as me (she has now moved) and that violates some concept of ideological purity then, fine, you make the rules here, but it is still just plain wrong.
Surely, though, this can't be a unique occurrence and you have had other instances where posters have had the same IP at some point?
