After reading the mutual mud-throwing, insults and mild flaming conducted by Alexander's Horse and Lancer in the threadThings I'd Like Just Once--- Keep It Clean) in the OT, could someone explain to me why only one of the contestants was restricted?

Sure, MarkG contented that AH was flaming, and that he continued bringing it to the thread after they were advised to battle it out via PMs. But am I the only one who fail to see what AH did that Lancer didn't?

This seems like a very "political" decision by MarkG, and quite frankly, I'm appalled at it. Can't remember having seen this kind of biased judging anywhere at Apolyton before.

Just caught up with the thread. Couldn't agree more, Legman. They were at each other in thoroughly equal serves. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I agree, and I also mostly agree with Horse's point.

I don't doubt that Karen Mills is (was) in a miserable situation worthy of help, but there's only a couple hundred thousand people in abysmal living situations like that in my town or hereabouts, and maybe a billion or so in the world overall.

So if any other poster besides Lancer makes a charity project like this, will it get the same degree of support/encouragement from the admins, or will the multiple threads be treated as spam and deleted at worst, or let to drop like ordinary threads at best?

- they were asked to stop and take it to pm
- lancer stopped and messaged ah
- ah responded in public, quoting part of the private message

Michaell, feel free to start a (real) charity project like the one by Lancer and see how we will deal with it
btw, lancer has been making "non-apolyton-endorsed" threads for some time now, it's not something new...

So this is your reasoning behind restricting him for one week? Wouldn't it have been wiser to think about whether your own sympathies on the underlying issue had anything to do with it?

Well let me just say that upon reading the thread, my conception is that AH started by bringing up a valid point (sticky threads), and as the race got going, Lancer was the one to say that he'd like to meet AH in order to punch his face in.

Given this - and the fact that they were equally succesful in insulting each other throughout the thread - I fail to see how this is not unfair...

I say turn back now, reinstate AH's posting rights and avoid further damage to the good name of Apolyton Justice.

It'd be nice if you could back up your decision a little more instead of just stating your conception is different...

Fairness should be your foremost concern when resorting to restrictions. And this wasn't fair MarkG.

Well it appears to have been in the case of AH's conception of the whole Karen Mills thing.

That's what I'm complaining about - that you restricted him because you didn't like his views on the underlying issue.

Ban Lancer too or bring AH back. Either one of these options would be fair, but not the one you chose.

It appears Lancer responded publicly after resorting to PMs. Was he asked not to respond publicly post-PMs? If not, why not? If so, why wasn't he banned? And for goodness sake, don't anyone try to suggest that Lancer's post-PM posts are any different to Horse's post-PM posts. The war was continued in public by both of them. Double standards are clearly at work here.
