Dan the posts state that problems have continued after the fix and that at least one of the complainers DID read your news item.

That damn monkey is shocking my browser!

I have had one person email me about the banner since that item was posted (directs people to email me at my @gamestats.com address), and they said that the banner caused no problems but rather they thought they were just supposed to contact me when they saw the banner.
So GP, does this justify all the yelling and screaming that is going on in this thread? No. The news topic states exactly what to do when you run into a problem with that banner in getting UGO's prompt attention on the matter.

Dan,
Please add me to your list of people complaining about this ad, and let UGO know that is is not fixed. Visiting the forums on a different computer (i.e. without ad-blocking software), I encountered the monkey ad for the first time. I had to force-quit Netscape, as it stopped responding. (I also object to the time spent loading the applet.)
Please ask UGO to get rid of this ad, never bring it back, and never use any more applet ads.
Thanks,

Murgatroyd:
Please follow the instructions as clearly outlined in our About section some time ago as to the procedure to follow to complain about this banner ad.
I am still waiting for several people to follow what is outlined on the page above so I can then pass it along to UGO on your behalf.

These instructions?

But if you hear of problems after it's back up let us know ASAP. Take a screenshot if you see it yourself and email it to dan@gamestats.com and he will pass it along to his UGO contact.

Unfortunately, I was unable to take a screenshot. What it would have shown was the monkey ad at the top of a Macintosh Netscape window, with blank white space below it.
As I have said, I was not using my own computer at the time. I did not see the ad again while using that computer. One year at Apolyton with the same username and location!

Dan, et al.:
Well, I've solved the monkey ad problem by simply de-selecting "enable Java" in my product preferences menu for Netscape v.4.08. That seems to prevent the ad from loading while not affecting any of the other ads or my surfing pleasure at Apolyton.
I still don't think the consumer should have to do that in order to bring about some semblence of order while surfing Apolyton, though. One would think the folks at UGO would test their ad monstrosities before releasing them on unsuspecting Netizens. After all, not everyone *has* or can *afford* the latest in latest of upgrades.
