    GameStats did apologize -- there's a notice right on <A HREF="http://www.gamestats.com" TARGET="_new">gamestats.com</A>

As Director of Operations of the network, I can say that we are already working on measures to minimize the likelihood of this happening again. Our uptime has been quite stable for some time, though I will admit that slowdowns have been somewhat prolonged. New server arrangements are being investigated but this process does take some time.

To the person who said that GS doesn't care about its affiliates, that couldn't be farther from the truth. If I didn't think GS cared about Apolyton and the other affiliates on the network, then I wouldn't have remained an affiliate of this network as long as I have (since December '97) or accepted the aforementioned Directorship this past July. I am most certain that Markos concurs with my sentiments. GS in constant communication with us and the other affiliates during the best and the worst of times.

Please remember that no server is perfect, and that we're all doing the best that we can. Your patience is greatly appreciated, as were the numberous emails and ICQ messages we received from concerned visitors in making sure that we were always informed on the extent of the situation.

MarkG, I understand maybe you have not had this exact problem in a long time.
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>actually, we had never "out of order" for that long, ever!

<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>the problem with the civ2 db was due to the ineffeciency of the script itself. and it was replaced. nothing to do with the server or gamestats.

John-SJ, when I checked the GameStats main site, it was up. I tried the link to the Apolytons Forum, it failed. This would be the logical place for a notice to have appeared.

Interesting. I tried coming directly to Apolyton several times on Sunday, and a couple of times when that failed I tried going to gamestats, and that failed too. Hmmmm...

I suggest you all agree on someone to blame, doesn't matter who, and then form a lynch mob.

When someone says something like, gee the site was down for X amount of hours, that sucks, I'm disappointed, the top brass around here react like it's a personal attack.

Hey guys, it happened, it shouldn't. If the place wasn't always slowing to a crawl, then maybe folks would not be so bothered. This is a great site you have here, (except for the that damned 1 in 8 rule) and everyone that works on it deserves the highest praise for a job well done, but the server is the pits...

I suggest everyone just goes to the Apolyton Tea Shop and has a nice cup of tea

"Ah! So that's where you've been Dan "

I'm "at" both Apolyton and GameStats.

The reason apolyton.net might be down at a given time, while gamestats.com is still operational, is because at present the two are hosted on separate servers on the network.
