ming... i heard you used to be VERY opinionated before becoming a mod, what? did the dark side of apathy take you?

before you didn't care what others thought, you did whatever markG or danQ told you to regardless of what we(the majority) wanted. now all of a sudden you're there to step in and be our "champion" of stopping insenseativity? BAH!

    in love(sarcasticly),

Gee, a classic "lose, Lose" situation. Half the people wanted it closed because they found it offensive, and the other half didn't find it offensive and are complaining that it was shut down... bummer!

In the past, when a situation came up like this one, the thread was closed. I have just acted in a consistant manner to what has been done in the past.

So feel free to continue to insult me, or question my judgement all you want. If I hadn't closed the thread, the other half would be doing the same right now.

So frankly, I really don't care!

        Tough one, Ming.
You are in a very grey area in this situation...I am usually of the "Robert Mapplethorpe" type of opinion...if you don't like it, don't go see it. Freedom to post idiotic threads should be preserved by the freedom to either condemn them or ignore them. Censorship is difficult, because you are in the subjective realm of opinion, not the objective realm of fact.
I'd say this: let such topics exist...those who cross the OBVIOUS line into hate, etc. (whatever is considered against the rules) shall be given a punishment, defined by said rules.
For instance, you edited a profanity out of my "violence" thread. I don't have a problem with that...it was late and my judgement was bit blurry . I thought it was a bit over the top, not completely corrupt...didn't bother me that you (or whoever) judged it inappropriate. Doesn't mean the thread didn't have validity of it's own.
I respect your judgements, generally, but you are really walking a minefield here...separate the people who overstep from a potentially valid thread...and let it continue.
        Good luck...you'll need it.

          ming,

i didn't mean to question you're judgement. you had a reason for closing the thread, and i wished to know it. supersneak hasd it right when he said...

thats what usually happenes to all my threads, people don't like them and they let them die. in this case they posted they didn't like it signifiying they wanted it to continue. f they'd of just let it die, you wouldn't be in this mess.

thats my two freakin' cents worth,

When people blitz my e-mail and icq with complaints about a thread, you bet your sweet life that I sit up and take notice.

And that thread was not dropping like a stone.

So, I did what was done the last time a problem like this came up... I closed the thread.

Again, no matter what I did, half the people were going to be pissed and complain about it. I decided that being consistant was the only answer.

            So blast away...

You just confirmed what many of us had suspected for some time. You are in the pocket of a clique of anonymous complaint makers. How very American of you (in the McCarthyist sense).

Care to name who these gutless wonders are? I can guess but I'm sure others might be surprised who these snitches are, in their coward's castle of the private message. I can't believe you actually admitted they influence you!

That comment of yours in fact pretty much summarises everything that is wrong with the way you are approaching OT moderation. You should step down from the OT mod role. You are burnt out. Leave it to Matt - he says he doesn't mind the spam.

                    Hiates actually .

But seriously, I would think Ming's job would be hard enough without having to also deal with whining and immaturity from un-named posters (AH, MWHC and others)

To requote from my selection from the "New Quotes" thread:

"Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain - and most fools do." </font>Dale Carnegie

Just think of the time, work and responsibility that goes into the Moderator's job. Instead of complaining and making the job harder, Apolytoners should unreservedly say, "Thank you, Ming" for what it seems is a thankless task!

I still say I did nothing wrong. I'm not saying Ming did the wrong thing, not saying he did the right thing. Just saying I did nothing wrong or against the rules of the site. And mouse, name calling is such the mature thing to do. Good thing we have you here to set the example... whoever you are.
