  • Who has been deleting my threads??? GRRRRR!!!

I dug out a couple of old OT threads from the back pages in the last 10 hours and someone deleted them

What is the justification for deleting perfectly legitimate threads with many posts???

Are you sure they were deleted, or has just sunk back down to the bottom?

Definitely deleted. Probably Ming being super net nanny again. One was a really good thread

I deleted all three of the ones you resurected. When you bring back a thread or two from the ancient past, and actually add something meaningful to it... it's OK.
Plus, I can understand when people have been gone for a period of time, and want to continue discussions that they had started.

But you brought back three old threads that deserved their fate of dropping faster than a rock, and added nothing new to the discussion. All three threads were over a month old. All it did was add three threads on the first page with your name on them.

People have earned vacations in the past for just that activity. I call it spamming!

Ming cuts Horse some slack by not giving him a vacation and Horse sooks about it.

I brought back 3 threads, 2 on the English theme, one on fish and chips and the other on the English accent because my post for the day was on an English theme. I found them when I was looking for the thread I wanted, which was on theology.

That is what I did, in all cases replying to posts from other people.

Actually, I didn't really cut him any slack.

When I saw the three threads, I checked ICQ to see if he was on line so that I could warn him that one more such thread would earn him a vacation. When I saw that he wasn't online, and that no more old threads had appeared, I just deleted the three spam threads and waited for him to complain about it here the next time he came on line

              He is so predictable

And so are you - the next thing you'll be accusing me of whining.

Why didn't you send me a private message? I was at work.

And pay no attention to Hydey, we just had a little disagreement in MP. This is his payback. Thanks son.

                  AH...
                  Well, you are whining

As far as you bringing those threads back, you had had plenty of time to continue those discussions in the MONTH that they were dropping like rocks. And, the comments you added were all one liners that added nothing.
All you did was add three threads to the first page with your name attached to them.

And yes, the job of moderating is a matter of judgement and opinion. People have been warned and given vacations in the past for exactly what you were doing. You have been treated no better or no worse. Fair is fair!

And there really was no need to send you a private message, since as expected, you started a thread here to complain like you always do when one of your threads get deleted

Firstly, it wasn't anything like a month, the archive that I can access only goes back a week or so. Secondly, I didn't have anything to add until today. "Firstly, it wasn't anything like a month, the archive that I can access only goes back a week or so."

Well, I disagree. The dates of the last post before yours on all those threads were around July 12th.

"Secondly, I didn't have anything to add until today.

You had a month to add to them... are you getting slow in your advancing age

"I think I explained why I wanted them - the English ones for the theme and the theology one beacuse it was a such a good thread."

It was such a good thread that it dropped like a rock and hadn't had a response in over a month.

"In your opinion, that's the problem. You're not enforcing the faq. Under the guise of
alleged spam you are just censoring and enforcing your own tastes"

Now that is your opinion. Every time somebody has done what you did, I have deleted the threads. It's not a matter of taste, or I would have deleted those threads when you first started them.

"Ho ho ho, if you had contacted me I would have said fair enough, I think I know why you
really did it, but I would have said save the theology thread. The loss of that really
annoyed me. You left some threads that were less important but deleted that one!!"

Well, I did check to see if you were on ICQ... when you weren't, I assumed a PM wouldn't work either... my mistake.
And why did I really do it? I think I have answered that question about 3 or 4 times already... just being consistent with past actions. And I deleted all the resurected threads I could find. The less important threads you must be talking about were all recent threads... and there was no reason to delete them.

And as far as getting in the last word, you will be awake again sometime in the future

You see, when you want to find threads to spam...

First you have to find a thread that you started, it makes it MUCH less obvious. Secondly, don't pick two things with very similar topics. And space it out over about an hour. Better yet, get someone else to join you in "posting" so its MUCH less obvious. By doing all that, you can barely tell that you brought it up for spam.

There goes one of my tricks

Hmmmm....I think the theology one could have had the merit to be resurrected (no pun intended).
I didn't realize we weren't allowed to bring back old threads...if there is an interest, let it ride.
I can see how this could be a device in the hands of pointless spammers, though...I don't think Horse really fits that bill. Megalomaniac, yes, puckered sphincter, yes...spammer, no.

                              You misunderstand...
It is ok to bring up old threads. I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is when multiple old threads are resurrected by the same person in a short time frame for no apparent reason. Yes, the theology thread was not too bad, but the others were simple spam that had fallen like a rock, as they deserved. Whenever a pattern like this begins, I just start deleting, and then warn the person if it continues.
