That's probably because apolyton is a great site. Don't get me wrong -- apolyton is one of the best sites on the net. Actually, that is a large reason why you should care about the adds in question -- you go to such length to insure that your site is free of bad content, and then allow adds like this. (Not to say that I'd ignore adds on another site which didn't go to such lengths.)

quote:

- MarkG
1) 'Jeoprdise'? We're not asking you to 'jeopardise' everyone's free servace -- working twards this will just make apolyton a better site. It's not like UGO is going to refuse to let you show their adds just because you complain.
2) 'Sensitivity'? Call me sensitative if you will -- but I don't complain because I'm overly 'sensitative'. I complain because it is my belief that, if no one else does, then the Adds will go on forever.
3) 'one person'? Be practical MarkG, there is more than one person here. Furthermore, this thread hasn't been wildly publisized. If you want to say 'it only matters to x people', then let me start multiple threads on the OT pointing to this one, asking people to, and let me keep bumping those threads.
4) What can you loose? I mean, no one's going to COME to this site because of these adds, and no one will LEAVE this site because of a lack of these adds. Some people, however (abet few) will be infulenced (come or go) by these adds.

1) Sorry, but I feel deeply about this issue, and I generaly act when an issue that I feel deeply about comes up.
2) I've never seen the 'mosquito ad' in question. At least, not that I'm aware. Sorry.
3) (Responding to "would you mind explaining to me the meaning of that last sentence of yours") I don't know if you meant that 'bored' comment, or not. If you did, however, then I'd rethink my statements. I, persionally, don't really care if you think that I just do this out of boredom (even though that's not the case), as long as it doesn't impact my case. Some other people, however, may not take that comment so lightly. After all, this is a matter of ethics and morals for most of the people complaining.
5) (Responding to "how do you do to get the smilie into the quote?") I pasted each of the comments seperatly. After I had pasted your comment, then I just typed the smile where it had originally been. Sorry -- There isn't a trick to getting the smiles to show .
6) Benedetti -- Let me say one thing. I like your approch to life, and I like reading your posts. Really, I don't hold anything agianst you. I just (unlike you), feel that this is so important, that it needs to be responded to.

Some people complain because I complain about quite a few things. I complain because the topic at hand means quite a bit to me. I wish that people could respect me for this (even if they don't agree with me), but it seems that that just isn't the way it is with most people. If you can't respect me for it, then please just shut-up (or express your own opinion w/o slandering me for having one too), and don't try to imply that it has anything to do with age. I reasure you (even though my opinion will change with time), I would still be arguing these topics were I 100 -- simply because my beliefs demand that I do what I can to support what I believe to be right. And that is all it is beliefs, I'm sorry to be the one to let you know that ACS is not the best place for intolerant people to spend their time. I agree most of the people here wouldn't like it if you started raving about creationist propaganda and stated that all of us were going to hell just because that is your belief.
About your specific belief, this is an international site, and neither of the two hosts are Americans. There are many people here that are not American and thereby do not share your "holy than thou" attitude about things. I for one am certainly not thrilled about a 13-year-old trying to impose more Americanization on the world.
My real problem is not your age, beliefs, nor your endless complaining; my problem is the method of complaining-- complaining about something without support, nor possible change of intended variables, is both annoying and futile.
Something you may wish to understand (before you learn it the difficult way) is that people that act like you will alwasy run into people that don't like the way you act, and without getting too descriptive I would like to point out that the end results of an interaction of the sort I mention above is by no means postive for you.
By the way, what religion (including sect) are you (because beliefs are usually backed by something prior)?

adamada, if a whole site-wide campaign must be made to get people to complain about an ad, if lots of people dont post on this forum about it, if lots of people dont mail us about it, then the ad is not that offensive after all
last time there was a real problem(pop-up), there was a 130-post thread in this forum without any "campaign", and we recieved 30-40 e-mails
this time it's 2-3 people posting on this thread and 0 e-mail. put yourself in my position...

adaMada,
I was in the process of thinking of how trivial it is for argument with a 13-year-old, and then something struck me as odd.
In your statement:

quote:

If you can't respect me for it, then please just shut-up (or express your own opinion w/o slandering me for having one too), and don't try to imply that it has anything to do with age. I reasure you (even though my opinion will change with time), I would still be arguing these topics were I 100 -- simply because my beliefs demand that I do what I can to support what I believe to be right. Sorry.

The logical conclusion on this trail that led me down states quite clearly that you are promoting the leftist feminist agenda, which mind you I find much more offensive than your purtian based obsession with a select few of ads on a mere gaming site. This feminist movement (in my opinion) has deteriorated the instiution of family and has brought on social gaps that remain severed without possibilty of being healed. So now this is very much a belief issue, as I find your remarks and attitudes pitiful and no less offensive than racism!
Notwithstanding, leaders of the feminist movement (especially after 1967) have now realised that their movement has put people's quality of life at risk and in the late 1990s began to redefine the feminist calling. So you are still under the influence of past mistakes, that inevitably make you the center of wrong as the greatest influencers of what you now speak about have turned away from what you percieve as reality.
I would take direct removal of these non-offensive ads as evidence of further leftist propagation into a realm which they have neither the skill nor the right to pursue into. You my friend are doing nothing less than bringing the "barons of hell" right up to these gates, and you will not escape the consequences of your actions. I think you have much explaining to do; before you find yourself lost in an entaglement of such epic magnitude that you will wish you were aborted as a child.
Best Wishes. Demon.

I fear NO evil!

Let me say one thing about the '13'. I'm not going to respond to any more of EvC's petty jabs on this subject. I once attempted to respond to a simular post (while debating Albert Speer), and, in the heat of the moment, said many things that came across differently then I meant them. I was never able to apolygise, because Ming closed the thread a few posts later. I'm not going to even try to respond to that any more. If anyone else (with a cooler head) would like to, please, feel free. I just want you to know that I'm ignoring you for a reason...

I'm sorry, but I really believe that that add really is that offenisve. I apolygise if it annoys anyone, but I like to think that I do my best to reply to every post that deserves one. I put all of my replies in one post out of respect for MarkG and DanQ, who wouldn't have it any other way.

It is not uncommon that something should be offensive to me, and I don't take the time to start ANOTHER complaing thread. The parts you underline in red was my attempt to forstall the attack on my age that I knew you would insist upon bringing up!! I was protecting myself... from an arguement.
As for your so called proof that i'm a part of the 'feminist movement', well, I'm not. I don't believe that females are superior to men... nor do I believe that males are superiour to females. I believe in equility.
As for the rest of your post, I'm also going to ignore it, because it is all based upon the assumption that I'm part of the feminist movement. It is also offensive (to anyone who believes in this movement), snotty, and irrelevent to the arguement at hand.
Also (just for the record), I'm a male. Just clearing up any confusion that my handle is bound to cause...
Now, let me say my bit about my beliefs. My primary belief is that all people are equal... and that we must be tolerent of other people's beliefs. I don't mind you stating your own opinion... Just don't mock mine. EvC... those banners are intolerent to females. You constintly accuse me of being 'intolerent of other people's opinions', when really, I'm being more tolerent then you are. Furthermore, you aren't even being nice. If you want to play 'rough', then that's fine with me, but everyone else on this thread has at least been 'slightly' polite (until you came along)... or at least has tried to be (I like to believe that I at least try, and apolygise when I fail to be so.). You, however, don't make the slightist effort.

A) I wasn't really trying to attack you when I spoke about my post's length, but just trying to pre-defend myself from EvC and company. If it came across that way, then sorry. B) I agreee that this thread 'could' be very short. Unfortinatly, some people seemed to still not understand what I was saying, even after a very long post, and giving up isn't in my nature. C) I also agree that, while a lot could be accomplished on apolyton, it really isn't lickly to happen. I'll be writing an e-mail to UGO in a few weeks to a month (I'd do it sooner, but soon I'll be going away for that long ) I like your idea, so at that time, I'll contact apolytoners (prehaps I could post a request here or on the OT -- MarkG, DanQ, any thoughts?) and asking who ever else feels the way I do to do the same. Hopefully, we'll be able to get UGO to take down their adds. If not, then at least we'll be able to say we tried, and we'll have a base for a stronger complaint in the future.

How typical of the behaviour you've been showing since you came here, EvC --- first you make a baseless statement, and then ignore people who try to tell you that you're wrong.
