Talk about people just getting stupid with a new little toy. It's like he just begs for problems.
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>well, many people have asked to change their login over the last 2 years. we made it easier than it could ever be. now, if the members instead of appreciating this start to find ways to disrupt the forum via it, what I can say...

I suspect that this will lead to trouble - I just checked the profile for 'Mr. Demesos' and it simply told me that there is no such user (now). - Without some sort of audit trail all kinds of mayhem might ensue ...
      Sounds fun though ELOL

dont worry, the script keeps track

for example, the last two changes are
Julian Delphiki -> Julian Delphíki and
        MattHiggs -> Chism

MarkG... I've been thinking about this a lot since yesterday. While a 7 day limit is good, a month would be better. Actually, the longer the better.

While this action is being taken to allow the members more freedom in their handle, I'm sure "somebody" will abuse it. A month limit will make it easier to handle any problems, while still providing the freedom for people to change their handle.

Actually I just came to this forum to ask about this feature which I had never spotted at the top before. I am considering changing my username to something more exciting...but confuse everyone in the process But a month limit would be a good plan, as I am interested in a permanent name change. I will be the first to adopt a new name, I'll think about what I shall pick this afternoon.

Well, I'm pretty sure that I won't change my username. Just told you so that nobody thinks a new username is me.

I don't like it, now it will be even harder to tell when ppl change names, so the FAQ won't be updated accordingly

I would like to see it upped to a month or more, this should only be used for permanent changes.

Actually, you should make it at least 4 months... only then we can be sure it'll be for permanent changes only.

I agree... the longer the better. It is really meant for permanent use, and not confusion

Oh, and it would be REALLY GREAT if you would make the changes public somehow, so that we can also see who changed handles..

Yes, that's a good idea. Otherwise you'll just be wondering who that new guy (or girl) is.

Great Idea!!! I like it a lot!

One question, though--could you set it so that there was some indication of who you were before you changed your name? What if (for the first month) right under your name, the words 'formarly <insert old handle here>' were listed? Might be difficult, but a great method of keeping track of who's who... I'm already confused.

                                1) the limit now between changes is 2 months. I think it's ok...

                                2) I've created a thread where the changes will be posted http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum20/HTML/000800.html

                                3) If someone totally changes his login(instead of correcting a spelling error or something like that), he can use the location field to put "Formerly known as XXX"(that is if he wants, he might not want to tell it to the world(it will be tracked though on the thread mentioned before))
