    People like breaking rules.
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>is that an unchangeable fact of life , or is there something that can be done?

I think it's an unchangeable fact of life.

People like breaking rules they don't agree with more than ones they do. If people are constantly breaking one rule then it's probably a problem with the rule rather than the punishment for breaking the rule.

In fact it can be good to break rules, so that way often old, overcome rules come down and we all can learn from that. Everybody did know that he'd get banned and voila. It's like getting a yellow or red card in a football game.

And life goes on, even if you're banned

Maybe not the rule is wrong, but the way it was handled. Posting a thread saying "don't post here or you'll get banned" HAS to lead to that absurd result, it was a provocation. In fact I was waiting the whole day for the first one to post there (and, in fact, I wasn't brave enough )

Reminds me of an old jike:
A farmer had an apple tree with a lot of delicious red apples. So, to keep away the thieves he put a sign to the tree saying "one of these apples is poisoned". The next day someone changed the sign to "two apples of these tree are poisoned"

                  Hmmmm.....

I still think it was cute

Hell,If I had not been playing that addictive game of smac, then I to probably would have been banned as I skim rather than read the whole post word for word.

If I had said I was sorry would I have still been banned?

                  glad your still here Karsten

I'm sorry, I have in the past been amongst the first to support the actions of the Admins and Moderators, but on this occasion - although I know nothing of the issue in question and the righteousness or otherwise of the punishments I must object strongly to the expression "*******" used extensively in the opening post of this thread.
Yes, Markos, it is your forum and you can say exactly what you want, but I find this extremely offensive - perhaps we are separated by a common language.

I wasn't going to post about this, but here goes.

It really bothers me when people complain about these things. This happens all the time, somebody will say "Don't do X or Y will happen" people do X and then complain about Y.

I read Ming's post and I may not have agreed with saying nobody could post in that thread. But if you know what the result of your actions will be before taking those actions DON'T complain when you ignore that information.

While I will admit I was probably being optomistic about people's ability to act in a proper fashion, it's not like what happened was just a spontaneous event.

MattHiggs told me on ICQ that he was bored and spent hours on ICQ setting up the "revolution" His intent was to earn himself the "village idiot" title that he has been demanding on these forums for awhile. The whole event was orchastrated by him and a some of his friends. They thought it was a good way to get people to come to the other forums they all have. I feel sorry for all the people who weren't a part of his scam, and got caught up in it. They were the ones that were hurt... supporting a "cause" that was just a planned attack on the Apolyton Site.

Yes, I was indeed stubborn, and the people that posted were being stubborn too. I just wish that they had really understood the "cause" they were supporting... just a simple spam job on Apolyton, set up by somebody looking to be a called a village idiot... go figure...

CyberShy asked me to post this for him.

Ming, These guys couldn't settup a revolution this way ! Or did you tell
them in advance that you were going to
setup strange rules they could break so they could start their revolution ?
You try to move the 'cause' to the 'rebels' but the first cause is and stays
                                the 'don't reply here' statement.
I concider it VERY questionable that you now try to move the 'guilty
question' to these so called revolutionists !
You cannot say 'the result is revolution thus they were already planning
                                that'
Then you mix up cause and result. That's like "I saw circles in the water
and thought I had to trow a stone into the water asap'
No, those circles are there because you trowed a stone into it.

That some idiots toke the opportunity to start some revolution is their
                                decision.
If you won't trow stones, the circles won't or will hardly appear. That's
YOUR responsibility as a moderator !
To avoid circles in the water ! What did you expect ? that the stone would
                                never reach the water ?
That theory of gravity won't work if the moderators don't want it to work ?

                                Take your own responsibility !

                                CyberShy

I have at least admitted I was stubborn... More than anybody else has And I will take some blame for being optimistic and thinking that people would act like adults.

But, this was a planned attack on this site set up over ICQ. Yes, I did present them with the opportunity... But they were the ones that went totally overboard with their revolution. Creating double log ons, passing on the word for everybody to post on this thread... and not being very honest with them either. This wasn't some great cause... This was one bored person who want's a "villiage Idiot" title.

So I will "take the blame" for thinking that people might respect the wishes of the owners of this site... you know, guys who have worked their asses off to give you a place to post. But it is a two way street.
I was just bringing up the true nature of this situation to people's attention, because I had the conversation with MattHiggs yesterday. Most people were suckered into helping him on his quest for a stupid villiage idiot title...

When you see speed limit signs on the highway, you can break the limit or not... but if you get caught, you get a ticket.
                                And you deserve it too.

                                Same thing here.
