Wouldn't that be because you are ranked below Rasputin?
Ok, ok, I'll take a +2, but that is really it for this thread.

I am of the belief that a huge postcount is not a matter of pride, nor is it a matter of shame. What is a matter of shame however is posting purely for the sake of increasing one's postcount. These threads are, to be brutally honest, nothing more than postcount masterbation. Posting about posting. Posting to say one has 100 posts, posting to say soon you'll have 102 posts, posting that one now has 102 posts.

Threads such as this serve no good purpose but a number of bad ones :
    • The glorification of postcount.
    • The confusion created in people's minds between heavy posting and blatant spamming.
    • Pushing posters forward into the public eye simply because they contribute a lot to the forum.
    • Making Deity and Emperor some great Holy Grail to be persued.

Sorry, but I'm not impressed by someone who can post...

lol yeah i agre ewith waht yo uare saying!!1!
...more than 50-60 times in one single thread and then make more threads to show not only how often they can perform this trick each month/week/year, but also how soon they will have done it more than 10,000 times.

Now I don't want this to be seen as a personal attack on Ras, as he is only the public face of a growing phenomon of "Psuedo-On-Topic Spam" - I'm sure I don't need to elaborate. I hate to complain, but I for one have only a limited patience for such things. I just don't want to read it. Some of you will know what I mean if I were to mention "stylish spam" - and that I will not complain about, however off-tpoic, it is at least entertaining to read, and has a place on every forum. I'm complaining about posts designed for the postcount to be boosted.

I'm sure I'm going out on a line here, as I have recently (very publically and without my requesting it) been demonstrated to post rather frequently. I imagine a few "Pot/Kettle/Black" comments are already forming on people's keyboards as they read this, to be honest.

But before you call me hypocritical, stop. Am I spamming? Or am I posting? I think those who know me realise what I mean.

So, in answer to Spiffor's original comment - better to be ranked below than above, eh?

The question is : Is posting a lot something to be rewarded with a fancy title?

      Good to get everything out.

For what it's worth I shall weigh in with an opinion (we all know I'm never short of those. )

I think these threads are harmless fun, and usually worth a read just to see how active people are. I don't think there is much of a danger of them glorifying postcount over and above what many people do anyway.

However on a more general level I empathise with Jamski's points. I have always believed in a distinction between witty spam and outrageous spam (though to some it may all be the same, I don't know), and the "l yeah i agre ewith waht yo uare saying!!1!" comment struck a chord with me. Posting a lot is not the same as finding a bunch of threads and posting gibberish in them often seemingly without reading the thread.

However, I don't think these threads promote such behaviour. Those that are prone to it were equally prone before the threads started, and would be equally prone should they be stopped.

I know exactly what you mean. Its trite. Its why I don't post in most spamcount forums, don't have an enormous post count rate, but have a reputation for the occasionally refined spam and its wholesome derivatives.

Some spam threads make me literally

Sorry to DrSpike, but his challenge is one such event I refuse to participate in - its a repetitive joke that I just don't find holding my interest. These lists are getting to that point too. If people want to do them, I have nothing against it, but I think do think them loathsome. Sorry guys.

Actually, the previous thread made me laugh out loud in front of my computer, even though it was full of pseudo-spam, meta-spam, or whatever spam. Because it was full of "stylish spam", i.e. a spam aiming at entertainment, at simply having fun.

I share your opinion on the matter of posting for the sake of increasin one's postcount (and some of us have seen how extremely boring it can get, to the point of wrecking a functioning small community). But I think these threads like this one serve the cause of stylish spam more than anything else

To BC..........well the challenge started as stylish spam. In part I concur that right now it is not, but it has become tradition and functions both as a nice in-joke and to stop people starting lots of damn stats threads that will get spammed anyway. Note the threads are few and far between these days.

I like "stylish spam", but more to the point I like being entertained by other peoples posts, whether on-topic or not. As long as people are having fun, who cares about their ppd or postcount?

Although commenting about the size of others' is fun.

I guarantee when I reach deity I will still be posting pretty much as I am now.

The data for everyone after Atahualpa in 2014 seems to be a little skewed, maybe you need to look at your # of days for them Rasputin...

My estimated deity date jumped from 2017 to 2080.

Odd, considering I've posted more in the past month than in previous months.

2006? Shocking! I should be able to manage Deity in 5 years of Poly well within my rate!

Are these calculated from from average ppd for our entire Poly existence, or from adding the number of posts the search function finds for us for the last month or from comparing our PC from one month to the next? If it is the first then that only shows an average - I have been FAR more active recently than for ages. If the second then you can't search for posts in private forums, which is where many of us frequent. Only the last will give a true indication of things.

Back to the ROOTS of addiction. My first missed poll!

I think he calculated them based on our PPD for the last month. Mine was much, much higher than normal so I'm supposed to hit deity in November of this year....but I've yet to even hit emperor.

OK, but how did he get this PPD for the last month? He had to have done it via an indirect way, as our profile only mentions the average PPD for all time.

I assume it's done indirectly by looking at the post count at the end of February and the post count at the end of March
