I see no reason why MSN messenger shouldn't be added to the UI of Apolyton. The other instant messengers are there, so why not MSN.

The quality of the program aside, if enough people use it, that alone warrants it's inclusion.

      Mitch,

there's no need to diss AIM. On the same grounds I could diss the .NET Messenger Service. AIM at least uses something more witty than the MS equivalent - usernames. MS has bogged it down by using e-mail addresses.
IMO, an exception can be made for AOL. Never before have I seen a company produce such extreme amounts of sucktitude.

Before that, I demand that the Y!M icons are re-instated by simply uncommenting several lines in a few templates. Would make it much easier to know who has Y!M, plus then the icons would properly appear in the postbit and the memberlist.

I'd say instead of adding the Y! icon on each post by people that have Y!M, remove the AIM and ICQ icons, so that it's all fair.

Also, I third (fourth, fifth? Support ) the motion to add an MSN field. The only thing that prevents me from using MSN all the time is the fact that I can't talk to people while being in invisible mode. I'm a fan of "Don't call us: we'll call you" when it comes to on-line communications nowadays, and while Yahoo allows me to talk to the select few I actually want to talk to while being hidden from the others, MSN does not give me that luxury and any time I make myself visible to talk to someone, I am innediately bombarded by messages from others... (And "ignore" isn't an option - all of the people on my list are people I want to communicate with at some time or other, just that I'd prefer to choose that time myself rather than have them bother me at inconvenient times. )

I believe that the reason to have AIM/ICQ and not MSN could be related to the fact that in AIM/ICQ you're identified by a number, but in MSN you're identified by an email address, making you a easy target for spammers...

                      Yaroslav,

ICQ spam is more common, if speaking of IM. Plus you can use e-mail spam filtration and an e-mail address you don't usually use. They get your address from elsewhere anyway; most likely.

In addition to what Rasbey said, most people I know never even check the email address associated with their Y! and MSN accounts. They use one account for chat and another for actual e-mails... And it is true that ICQ is much more spammy. Go to almost any popular public room server, and you'll almost instantly get bombarded by porn ads...

I don't use ICQ too much, but I was speaking of email spamming... I don't know if there is email spamming in ICQ. Yes, it's true that a lot people use spam-filters in hotmail (or directly don't read the address), but there is a problem with making email public that the admins could argue

Last time they closed the case by refering to privacy issues, which was basically that an e-mail address had to be public in order to make it work. Humbug. Like my e-mail addresses wouldn't be public in God knows how many places. I think that arguement isn't valid. Just my 0,05€.
