Like I said, I've seen both forms in the Hindu (indeed, Hindu, not Buddhist) parts of Asia.
There exist many types of signs which stand for the Swastika. Even the standard version has two forms, the one facing the right - also called the symbol of- the right hand path and the one facing the left, called the symbol of the left hand path. These two Swastikas are also considered to represent the male and female. There is also a Swastika which is an amalgam of these two types
A common form of the Hindu swastika symbol:

Locutus,
Yes, sometimes the Hindu symbol is drawn clockwise, but it would be nigh impossible to distinguish it from the Nazi one without context, e.g. used as an avatar. You can never go wrong with the counterclockwise one, however.(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget

Well, I'd say either both are still prety darn close to the Nazi swastika and should prolly be avoided in avatars, unless there's a very good reason for it. But I guess it really depends on the exact form of the swastika and its context (or lack thereof) as well: nobody seems to have a problem with the swastika in Uber KruX's avatar (though I'm not sure how long he's had it). Like someone already said: a lot comes down to intent... (which in Zylka's case doesn't leave much room for doubt)
