  • ACSR Sound Quality

For the first time in a long time I tried to listen to ACSR again this evening but without much luck: the sound of DanQ reading the news is very poor: very soft (even with the volume buttons at max I can only barely hear it) and very muffled (for lack of a better word). It's like there's a sock over the mike or something...

Oddly enough the intro and outro play just fine (including the part where Dan talks: 'Thank you for listening, blah, blah').

I used to enjoy listening to ASCR, but can't anymore. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know a solution? (Dan, clean up your socks, will ya!? )

First, I must say it is nice to know that someone is listening or at the very least interested in the current status of ACSR. Sometimes I wonder what size of audience I am speaking to...

Onto your point above: I recognize it and I too dislike it. It is presently a microphone issue that I am still working to resolve. The reason the intro sounds fine is that it is a clip from an audio file in another format, and the outro was recorded at some point last year before the present technical difficulties arose.

Please keep listening -- or at least trying to {grin} -- as I continue to work on resolving this issue...

Good to know you're aware of it and working on it, Dan
Please let us know when you've resolved the issue (or at least alleviated it). As it is, most of the time I can't make heads or tails of what you're saying so there isn't much of a point in listening...

Is realplayer the only option? I really don't want that program on my PC, even worse then Quicktime

I listen to ACSR occasionally...BTW, most of the bloopers didn't seem that bad, I just would've kept recording through them

Yes, RealAudio (RA) is the only format ACSR is available in. There may be other audio players out that that support RA, but none that I am presently aware of. Visit this page for background as to why the RA format was chosen and continues to be used on ACSR.

The audio quality of some of the more recent shows, "ACSR Daily" and "ACSR Weekend" included, should be notably improved over its immediate predecessors.

Also, to 'Azazel' and 'mrmitchell': thank you for tuning in, and for telling me so.

                    Good morning.

The technical difficulties with Apolyton Civilization Site Radio (ACSR) broadcasts have been resolved... at last! Starting with editions posted today, listeners should have no difficulty in listening to the shows.

Thank you all for your continued patience and understanding.

Well, at least my speaker wasn't the problem.

Why didn't anyone tell me I was sane in the staff room!

I thought it was an error on my part.

Just wondering, were you bouncing a ball while recording the newest issue- or is there some other problem with the microphone/recorder?

There is no other problem with the microphone/recorder that I am using that I aware of.

Hmm... Don't know what it could have been... it just sounded like a ball was being bounced against a wall at times- did anyone else notice it?
