I'm willing to help with operational issues day-of-convention, more than happy to do so. I've got event-running experience (but no event-planning, oddly enough, previous to day-of-event...) I'm also happy to be the official Spreadsheet Dude if you need anything in excel that's beyond the ability of whomever needs it to make. (And grunt work, that's cool too.) I'll definitely figure out a way to be there next year, will put in a request for the time off the moment my boss puts up the time-off calendar for 2006

Great, Snoopy!
I read your PM and am mulling it over and am going to forward it to the other members. I am quite positive that you can make a contribution (your idea of matching T-shirts for volunteers, while simple and obvious to you, was eye-opening to me). Expect a PM from me later on tonight, possibly tomorrow (it's almost 6:00pm from where I sit).
My biggest problem is that my laptop was stolen yesterday, meaning all my documents that I created since last Thursday morning (Wednesday night is my backup night) are gone... including a 3 page memo on financing, a very-general convention budget, etc. C'est la vie

I am absolutely thrilled at the response I've received for volunteers - from people who can't participate but "want to help" to people going full bore and becoming committee members, the early enthusiasm in which people here have embraced this project has left me speechless.
So far we have...
4 people who are working on, or with, the Committee. Me, Zopperoni are the two full time committee members. DanQ is a quasi-committee member - think of him as Chairman of the Board. We hope to announce a fourth soon, possibly by tomorrow morning.
2 gracious gents who, while they are unsure of their chances to make the convention itself, have volunteered to do online stuff. I just sent Orange a PM this evening asking him if he could do a special task that he suggested to me via PM... if so, it'll be really cool. Duke, we'll have something for you shortly...
At the convention itself, we have three volunteers already... one of which can scope out possible hotels! ZargonX has volunteered to help with local contacts as well as regular convention work, Imran has volunteered for the all-important "booth crap" position, and Ozzy can do convention work and 9-person shuttling (If you can get Sid Meier to ride from the hotel/office to the golf course while in the trunk of that thing, I'll pay for three tanks of gas that weekend!! ).
We've had two volunteers for the Workshops, already: Adrian Hon has volunteered to lead a demogames workshop (conditional upon being able to make the convention) and DanQ himself will lead or co-lead a panel on Apolyton, its history and its future!
Thank you. Thank you all so much.
But we need more people to help! We especially need more workshop/panel volunteers (see separate thread), we'll need more booth crap volunteers, we would like one more person for the committee, we might even want a couple of "tech-support" guys.
Lastly, if any of you have convention experience, please let us know. Even if you don't want to "serve", if you could act in an advisory role, that would be great.
Thanks.

Yeah, seriously... after a couple of hours I'm liable to get bored and wander away“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Well, I have been trying to promt this thing in my sig for some time now. But the lock of me coming is no long as solid as it once was (a newborn will do that). If I do make it (and I should know by mid to late Jan) I will happily volunteer to assist at the convention (if all I do is keep Imran in one place, that will be enough, won't it?).Founder of The Glory of War, CHAMPIONS OF APOLYTON!!!

It sounds like I'll be able to attend still (despite the dates being VERY close to my wedding anniversary and my 2nd oldest son's birthday), so I guess I can do some of the infamous "booth crap"."Stuie has the right idea" - Japher

Hi John. I will, in all likelihood attend. Especially with snoopcat and concat going.
But why in godz name are we naming Apolycon after that notorious spammer conmcb.
And I am willing to help out. In real life I have a senior management position, and do a lot of presenting and public speaking. In Poly life, I am a civ demo gamer and pbem'er. But I can help out in any number of areas. I am also willing to come down a bit earlier if required. (I'm in Toronto).Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Right now, if you want to help we need people to host workshops and panels in subjects that interest them. I have a couple of volunteers, but far from the number needed to fill the space!

We're also setting up the banquet/cookout so that all Attendees and their guests can come... we'll break out the banquet price from the overall convention fee.

Just make sure beta uses spell check in his presentations, his spelling is atrocious via association.......
