Today KrazyHorse and I met with Tim Train and Jason Coleman, founding partners (along with Brian Reynolds and Dave Inscore) of Big Huge Games to discuss the convention.
It went fabulously. They agreed, in principle, to most every particular in the agenda - workshops, Brian's involvement in a Q&A session, a bunch of other issues. Both of us got a free copy of Age of Empires III, and KH got a job offer. (As to why I didn't get one, I'm going to assume that BHG hires cheap so they apparently like broke students as employees. )
Tim also brought a lot of ideas to the table, including having BHG possibly host a LAN party, workshop and panel ideas (especially in regards to modifications of RoN and RoL), and others.
But the best idea is coming out of necessity. As you remember, we were planning on doing a round of golf featuring foursomes - Sid in one, Brian in another, Brad in a third, the rest of the spots taken by Dan/Markos/Apolytoners.
However... Brian doesn't golf. So that's out.
In it's place, however, Tim suggested a gaming tournament - and not computer games, but both board games and low stakes poker. Tim especially mentioned a Civilization (the board game) tournament, and there will be some others. However, what got KH's attention was the mention of a poker game, played with Brian, Tim, and other BHG personnel, as well as Apolytoners. If we pursue this idea, KH is interested in helping arranging the logistics - tables, chips, players, schedules, etc.
However, you might have a better idea. If you have one, let us know! Or if you like this one and have some ideas for it, let us know those too!
