  • Turn 2171 to wgabrie

Please note Col Santiago has called for Planetary Council to vote for Planetary Gov. Archaic and HObbes are candidates. I forgot what I am supposed to do so I voted more or less to exit the game. Please advise . Is it too late for me to negotiate favours or whatever.

    • The protocol is to inform the players that an election has been called & it is nice to know the number of votes per player so that lobbying can take place. Did you vote or abstain then? Who did Santiago vote for? What about the other AI?

I would prefer a replay so that we can sort this out properly.

      • As would I. Now that we're able to communicate freely, I think both myself and H0bbes would like the opportunity to campaign for the Governorship properly.

        • Ok waiting consensus. I dare say that if the two candidates agree that is enough but.
As a matter of interest how is one to proceed, according to protocol, when the AI calls for elections. Ok take note of votes per faction and who has voted amongst the AIs but as the current player in that situation do I use the ingame comms channel to negotiate and await the turn coming around again or vote without having negotiated with the view to replaying. Pretty awful if it happened later in the game and you'd forgotten what moves you'd made.

May'be there's a apolyton help thread on this.

          • Interesting thing about pbem...you can save the turn (normal save, NOT end turn) and resume later without triggering a reload warning. If such a save is made on a turn that has a vote, you will get to re-vote every time you load a save of that turn. Such a re-vote supercedes whatever you voted previously.

Conducting negotiations with AI representatives of human controlled factions is absolutely unacceptable and is forbidden in every rule-set I know.

As a matter of procedure, I suggest:

            a) Make note of candidates and votes. These are generally to be posted/emailed to all players.

            b) If you wish to negotiate with other players before voting/proceding, cast any vote at all, then save the game.

b1) After your negotiations have been concluded (by email or post or PM or however) resume the saved turn, voting this time as you wish to do.

NO replaying is necessary if the proper save procedure is used.

You cannot wait for the turn to come around again to vote. In your next turn, the vote will be over.

              • Well, frankly, I'm not sure how to campaign for this position except in public, so, here goes.

If I am governor, I promise non-interference in all matters. I and my people mearly wish to live in peace, with our research. While we wish for free trade of knowledge and goods amongst the colonies, we would not dream of forcing it upon those who do not wish it.

If it would help those worried about us having the powers of this position, we are more than willing to sign ourselves into Pacts of Brother and Sisterhood, so that you will have access to the same data as us. In fact, we would wholeheartedly encourage all factions to establish such pacts between each other, to help foster trade and research for all our mutual benifits.

I'm really not sure what else to say. I'm supposed to be a Provost, not a Politician. I'll leave the decisions up to you all in any case. Whatever happens, the UoP will stand by the will of the council.

                    To All,

I'm gonna be doing some major surgery to my computer, so I'll probably be offline for a couple of days. Be back probably on Wednesday. FYI.

                        • On to Hobbes

My computer seems to be bugging out on me. It seems that everytime I go to type 'Hobbes' in the save turn dialog the program crashes. ::hmm::
Don't rule me out when I'm losing. Save your celebration until after I'm gone.

                          • Hmmmmmmmmm. So it's to be that knowledge-crazed scientist as governor. Well, you reap what you sow; don't come searching for the even-handed moderation of the peace-keepers when the mad-scientist and his minions unleash their unethical research at your door.

                            Turned.

And yet you still accepted the offered pact the previous turn...hmmm....
In any case, I may be "knowledge-crazed", but I'm far from mad. Me and my faction are peaceful researchers, nothing more. Though I must admit it's fun to watch the lecturers from the faculty of economics and business actually get the chance to put all their theories into practise for once with all this commerce that's being routed through here at the present point in time.

I'll send the turn on once I get back home. Missed the final bus out of the city tonight, so I'm waiting the hours 'till the first service this morning out in the Uni computer lab. *Glomps the T3 connection*
