The order to attack came over the comms at midnight. The commandos of Bravo company positioned themselves on a ridge overlooking Ironholm. The seething mass of mindworm boils were dangerously close, but Command had predicted they would move on the enemy first or meet their end at the flameguns of the defending rovers that buzzed around the sieged encampment - either way the worms provided enough cover to prevent a pre-emptive strike by the Spartans.
"Looks like they're coming out to play sir !", remarked the sergeant handing over the optics.
A steady stream of lights flowed out the main gates - heading right for their position.
"Yes, but why leave the turrets undefended ? They don't stand a chance against us out in the open. I fear it's a ruse of some sort, but we've got our orders sergeant - move up the second column, we're going in."
The ensuing battle raged on for close to an hour, the Spartans put up a hell of a fight wiping out most of Bravo company. When the Unity rovers were called from reserve to secure the city and the dust settled, it became clear that the early attack was made in order to buy enough time and distraction for the Colonel to make his safe departure in the opposite direction.
Command had argued that driving them out would only give the Spartans an opportunity to regroup in greater numbers. With the spotlight off them for a while they could gather enough followers and re-build their H.Q., but the Chairman knew they could not run for ever - each base captured pushed back the frontier and soon there would be nowhere left to hide.

Bug produced perimeter. Yes, fair enough criticism, but it was hardly intentional. I would never deliberately exploit a bug. Moot now, anyway.
While I haven't yet received the turn, it appears the attackers have overrun our positions. A shame really, we were about to complete production of a second rover, with which we could have eliminated the enemy attack force in one swoop.
By the way, as for a second game, I don't think I can play it. I've really enjoyed this one so far, but the bottom line is I am about at my limit for PBEM games right now, and I'm actually waiting for a couple to end in order to slack the pace a little.Fifteen apparitions have I seen,

I can deal with the bug. It was the gloating that stung...
"...another wave of units at the perimeter!"
Plus, I'm still smarting from the annihilation of my entire 5 unit expeditionary force. Two dead in foolish attacks, two killed by just in time production of a new rover and the fifth ambushed by a wild worm...of course THAT happened the turn AFTER I spent all my precious ec to upgrade it!
I may be in the same boat with respect to number of games. Counting H2H tourney games, I think I have 9 going or about to start.

Turn to aborman.
It is good to see some of Planet's inhabitents are devoting SOME money to research...though it is a pity so many of you choose the same topic to look into it.
Spartacommand - By the time your com message had arrived, I already had...aquired that technology, so you got a freebie. I hope that you will payback this...loan at some point in the future, perhaps with a low intrest rate of return?
At least my scouts have fiannly found some geography of interest.

2140 to radman.
I wasn't really gloating about the units at my perimeter. Since they overran my city, I didn't actually see much to gloat about. To be honest, I was just waxing poetic, and wasn't actually referring to the perimeter defenses that I was gifted with. All moot now, anyway, as the city is in the hands of the Hive.
Excerpt from the battle journal of Colonel Arborman:
" The Hive troops were simply too numerous, and, curse him, the Chairman is a wily general. Our main city was overrun, but luckily we had planned an escape, and from our new bolthole began to work on our revenge. With luck, and a little diplomacy, the Hive menace might still be stopped."Fifteen apparitions have I seen,

So the C.E.O espouses the chaos of his so-called Democracy. This governence is nothing but a sham. The Randian Corporation will perpetually hold power no matter what lies they feed their people about their own individual 'freedom' - it is no wonder that technology is being leaked to the rebels and riots abound in his cities with no proper constraints by the ruling party over it's subjects. Even our enemies the Believers have embraced the Police State and for this alone we have given them the opportunity to sue for peace. Are you deliberately trying to provoke the wrath of the Chairman C.E.O ?Every positive value has it's price in negative terms - the genius of Einstein leads to Hiroshima.
