Cha Rynn looked across the faces of her advisors to seek out Googlie's eyes and held them in an accusatory stare.

"We all asssumed your advice was sound," she began, "but you have misled us. Now the barbarians are at the gate with their alien weaponry. Are we to lose a base due to your arrogant pride?"

He shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

"I have ordered our mindworms to the area," he offered.

                    Cha Rynn snorted.

"Hah. Mindworms. They couldn't even defend our Colony Pod against a wild one - little more than a hatchling, really. Whay makes you think they can fight off an Alien rover?"

                    Googly shrugged infuriatingly.

"We'll just have to wait and see, won't we?" he saids complacently.

Cha Rynn turned on her heel and stalked out of the conference room, amidst the confused babble of her officers and advisors.

                    Googlie looked at them.

"What?" he asked. "Why me? I didn't order the attack in the first place, she did. I'm just trying to pick up the pieces."

He, too, rose and left the meeting.

Th'pet lazily reached out a talon and turned up the magnification of the scope.

"What can you detect?", 'Yvret, her weapons officer, resonated.

"Wait for a tenth turning," she altered. She peered into the scope.

                        "I see the fungus moving.

"By Harmnony's mantle, it is a native mindworm. Huge. It is entering the Offworlder's base."

"What's that?" 'Yvret queried, pointing with a sheathed talon to a glint in the distance, by one of the Offworlder's buildings.

Th'pet swiveled the scope, and adjusted the focus.

Suddenly there was a flash from the side of the building, and the Rover was rocked by a blast as its secondary fuel supply erupted with a stench of scorched hullskin.

"Retreat," Th'pet barked. "The Offworlders are firing their weaponry at us."

Dwan, the engineer, hastily engaged the engines and withdrew the rover to a safe distance.

                        "Damage report?" resonated Th'pet.

"About 50%," altered Dwan. To our hull, but more importantly, to our weapons bay."

"Sweet Harmony," Y'vret interjected, her resonances harsh and gutteral. "May our ancestors welcome us with honor."

                        Th'pet looked round.

Emerging from the Offworlder's base to do battle was the largest Mindworm she had ever seen.

(and no, he's just taking the plaudits from his fellow advisors for the successful Mindworm destruction of the alien rover)
