Peace Keepers, I love being planetary Govenor and that Arcetecture!!! I usaly play them in a very Builder kind of way.
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

"You may speak of order and security Chairman frankychan, but your so-called Police State is just another brutal dictatorship and a slap in the face to all who regard life."

Seriously, I see no problem with the Hive's utopian vision. But a little bit more democracy wouldn't hurt.

Democracy? Democracy worked great in the days when the population was small enough for them all to gather in the forum and talk face-to-face about their problems. Why do you think the citizens who are happiest (particularly in the books) are the ones who live in the "dictatorian" Hive and Believing factions?

                I like:

The Free Drones: I am personally a socialist and Domai is almost what I think is perfect.

Human Hive: The kollektiv, the police state is not that good, but hey it's to easy to play as Hive.

Gaia: Eco freek yes I am.

                Dislike :

                Miriam: the devil herself.

                The ailiens...
What do I care about your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output.

                  No they're not. They're just nerve-stapled.

I appear to be the minority who likes the Data Angels.

                    Power to opensource!

                    My reasons go like this:
Democracy sucks, because the minority gets screwed.
Capitalism sucks, because the majority gets screwed.

While in the game DA's are democratic, it strikes me of more of an anarchy than Lal's bureaucratic democracy. The main reason they are democratic is because they rigerously oppose both Police State and Fundie.

Basically, I feel the DA's society would be about the least opressive one of the lot.

Yeah, but if everything with the Data Angels is anarchistic and does their one thing, can you still speak of a 'society'?

In other words, they wouldn't stand a chance in the real world when competing against one of the other factions.

Well, perhaps not only in real life. In my own games of SMAX, the Data Angels are nearly always eradicated by other factions (ok, landing next to the Usurpers doesn't really help)

I dont agree with ANY of the ideologies. im a social anarchist so i beleive that no form of authority, state capitalist or otherwise is justified. I hate capitalism, statism militarism and fundamentalism, therefore i agree with NONE of the ideologies in the game. The best faction for me wouyld be NO FACTION. Logically it follows that if i play the game, i might as well go nuts and have fun and not take it seriously since i cant anyway.

My choice was the hive, because Statist Communism is fun. I nuke, i commit TONS of atrocities, and i love every second of it.

You get to be your own Stalin in your own little world, totally unfettered by ethics. And if your an anachist, you prove yourself right wether you win or lose

Drones a close second, if i had to actually choose which one id like to live in, it would be the drones or gains

oh and hi again, i know i havent shown up here for eons

I dont think the Data Angels would be true anarchists, rather the emphasis in the society would be true free flow of information. Essentially the nearest thing you would get on planet to a frictionless economy. The democraticness is more likely to the virtual than representive, that is on really important policy (ie that which the goverment actually makes) everyone really does get a vote.

As for why I like them in game, well they might not have any killer builder benefits like Zak or Morgan, but they also lack the somewhat painful negatives of some other factions. Combined with excellent starting techs (Planetary networks - thats just 3 techs from IndAuto!) and the ability to go planned very early makes them a very decent builder - I think of them as a less extreme morgan, less cash yes, but the cash goes further on probing and you dont have to deal with the severe hab limits and support penalty of morgan. (you could also easily compare them to Zak or the Gaians, I just happen to be a big Morgan fan)

Overall the Datajacks are a most flexible faction, with an excellent start, no penalties to slow them down and the best probes on planet to boot. What more could one possibly want

PS: The rollever bug sucks, tho I tend to just ignore or accept it. Being anarchists the datajacks are more likely to be mind controllable than the fanatic Believers anyway.
