Actually, Dimension, you cash in crawlers in TCP/IP/MP by moving the crawler to the base you want to cash it into, then hitting "o".

Thanks for the tip... Don't know why I never tried the "Convoy Resources" screen. I guess that's because when you enter a city, the screen is completely different than pressing O in the field.

Actually, I'm a CompSci/Japanese major with a really horrible GPA

Oh, and after all the analysis, maybe I should now say that my official favorite unit is the Plasma Steel Drop Rover Supply (0^-3t-2 DropTrance)

Of course, I use a combination of all units to make a strong army, but my favorite (even thugh late) is a unit on Antigrav chasis, with Singularity Laser (or perhaps Graviton Gun, soon after that), and NO ARMOR. Lack of armor is what makes them cheap. After having designed it, I order 4 of my best bases to produce these non-stop, what means that in 8 turns, I've got at least 16 of these units. Then it's pretty easy to do...unless the others are defending with AAA Neutronium armor.
The best thing about those Antigrav units is their ability to capture bases, and the ability to move quickly, so you can often get in heart of your enemy's empire.
Then, I love the Chopper (not Needlejet) Colony Pods. I use these to found bases for stationing my needlejets, even thugh such a base can fall quite quickly. That's why I would usually escort such a colony pod with another chopper - no weapons, but the best armour available.
These two really can make the whole game for you.

In my current game, I was playing Lal and started on a handkerchief-sized penninsula with Marr at the bottleneck! Urgh! Only solution was to go on the sea (swimming in shark basin as well because my custom made marine alien faction was in the game as well!) and play Lal the Svensgard style.
And with all that low mineral seabases I needed some sort of cheap and fast ship.
Combinated with some needeljets, these ships are great for capturing and holding sea bases! Ask Morgan and Punisher Murgur from the "Manifold Buccaniers", they can tell You!

You got that faction on a site someplace? I'm always on the lookout for some *balanced* factions (reasonable strength, not overpowered juggernauts, but something that is as balanced as the original 7, or slightly unbalanced as the smax 7*. Alien water faction? *chills up my spine*. Great. As if we need more problems, now we have sharks. Sigh...

I like the AAA chaos destroyer and some custom units I made. The probe team is indespensible.

I don't know if it's my favourite unit, but the one I make the most use of, for the longest period in the game, is the boring old silksteel/ecm/AAA defender. So handy. So hard to defeat for so much of the game when combined with sensor/creche/aerospace. You just have to love the little buggers

I'd have to say my favourite units are probe teams, choppers and drop poded units. Most of my game conquests are won in that way: send hordes of probe teams to to disable facilities such as aerospace complex, creche and perimeter. The send in the choppers to get rid of the garrison. The just make an airdrop, if you're close enouth .

I'm a proponent of Rapid Deployment Forces. In SMAC/X - this usually means that you have to transport using sea units. Are there any aircraft units that can transport more than 1 unit?

Hans Guderian was asked by Hitler "How are the Russian roads?"
He answered: "They have no roads. Only places where they go."

I like rovers with probability sheath.

                        Why?

                        Because it just looks cool.

Aircraft too--but how often can you afford that?

                        Dumbest looking armor?

                        Temporal, no doubt.

OK, I'm probably being really stupid here. But ... er ... what is this choking on a gnat business about ?

Among my favorite units are crawler cruisers with deep radar, and res armor for worm defence. Not only do they vector in resources to my bases but they also serve double duty by illuminating large sections of the ocean for me allowing me to make much better use of my naval assets.

The Manifold Buccaniers are my own custom faction, and very simple made:

Loaded up the pirates up to the faction editor.
Changed them to Alien faction and gave them the Usurpers pictures.
Changed the colour of their units.
                              Ready.

Astoshingly, although the Manifold Buccaniers have both the advantages of the Pirates and the Aliens (tech, res. armour from start, battle ogre), I have the experience from a lot of games that they were not overpowered and were a little weaker than the Pirates or the Ursurpers (perhaps because they don't have the 25% attack or defense bonus of the other Aliens).

Oh, and this game is the first I ever got with THREE alien factions
(Usurpers, Caretakers, and Manifold Buccaniers). It's a slaughtering like being in "Starship Troopers".
