The Human Hive, the United Nation's Peacekeepers (although I rename them - damn improper terminology!), and the Cybernetic Consciousness most of all; I play the Gaians and the University occassionally and I am looking forward to getting my computer back from the customs officials and playing around with the Nautilus Pirates and the Believers.

Interesting. I love playing the believers in a deep builder stance. +2 support means an absolute army of formers, which quickly makes -2 research a nothing. If anyone does attack then +25% attack = dead attackers. The +1 probe is largly irrelivent, since I like to send out lots of probes anyway.
Also enjoy playing Morgan and the PK's. I used to like the uni, but now, I just find them somewhat boring. They seem to have no real flavour to them.

More Believers comments....
....Just started another game with them (my past one was going HORRENDOUSLY BAD). This one is much better. I had the University plop next to me, and I immediately sent in 7 scout units to try and conquer them. Zakharov saw this and quickly went submissive. Unfortunately, Lal is on his other side, so we've been trading blows with one another while trying to not get the University involved.
The only thing I still don't like about them is the fact that you have to wait FOREVER to get probes....but once you do, oh-boy!
As for the Gaians, I find that they are one of the fastest factions to grow (pop-wise). I think they are on par (if not surpass) the Hive in growth. Their "green-thumb" must really help them out cause when I encounter them, they have really large bases, and a lot too, compared to my many small bases. But my military is better.
I tend to favor conquer factions, with builder's coming in just a little behind them. That's why I like the Hive, they are both of my 2 favorite things.
Bingo-sorry, I haven't played SMAX in a very long time.....Despot-(1a) : a ruler with absolute power and authority (1b) : a person exercising power tyrannically

I dont like the angels too much, dont know how to play then well, and when I try to blame another faction for my probe actions I am usually caught
Since I dont like to restart and probe again "until I suceed" because I dont like to cheat, so I end with Roze in front of a computer trying to use Kazaa to download the techs from the University
Bingo
About the Cult, well I trying to play then in a recent PBEM, but all the times I tried playing then in single mode, that -1 ECO and -1 IND were really bad to deal. But with Green Economy you get worms that are 40% stronger. Try to build and concentrate on Centauri Preserves and other +1 LIFECYCLE improvements and SP as soon as you get then. The Cult definitively isnt a tech or build-faction. I see then as the "Spartans of Fungus". So, while the spartans focus on conquer techs to improve morale, the Cult must focus on explore techs to improve lifecycle. Well, I dont have all that experience with then anyway, but I hope that you can use some advice.
If you like the planet bonuses but prefer build-oriented factions, try the Gaians intead.

Thanks for the advice, Cosmic. Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been doing, focusing on the lifecycle base structures and explore techs. Right now I'm just trying to figure out if a psi-based military is feasible.
The free brood pits is really a good deal, because when you have them the Cult basically gain a +2 police rating, and since it makes the mind worms 25% cheaper that negates the -1 industry somewhat.
