Suggested post to the Conference 9after the one being discussed above)

See the Angels-Sparta relations thread for background)

Colonel Googlie strode back into the Conference chamber, and took his seat, looking visibly annoyed.

He rose, and addressed the Conference:

"The Federation has an announcement to make:

We will honour the Truce recently signed between the Federation and the Corporation

We will honour a Truce between the Federation and the Gaian Union, provided we have their acceptance of rights of passage through the canal separating Hive lands from Gaian lands, if ever these waters should again fall under Gaian control."

The Colonel turned to look squarely at the Conference chairman:

"But we are perturbed at the duplicity of the Data Angels. Even as they twist interpretations regarding the Federation's right to control access to the University Protectorate, they are, behind our backs, negotiating deals with the University. We find that conduct unacceptable, and advise all parties that this action has abrogated any deals or agreements made between the Federation and the Data Angels.

We now withdraw from this Peace Conference, as we judge its objectives have been met."

Sweeping up his documents and data crystals, the colonel turned and stalked from the chamber

Amended first post posted in the Conference: see here

Now we wait until we get agreement to post something like the second (above) - and make plans for the AV in 2172

Wow, very well written and to the point! It would be awesome rp-wise. But I wonder if we are ready to isolate ourselves as much as that would entail.

Surely the Angels will side with the weasels if we go ahead and build the AV, with no hope for future relations with them.

Of course, the Angels have messed around behind our backs, and we shouldn't let them get away with it, but this direct approach is not our only option. We could call them up and insist that they confess and demand the 25 ec they got from Lal along with a public apology. Or we could demand the right to build the AV in lieu of making this betrayal public. Or maybe there are other better options I just want to make sure we aren't overlooking anything.

But it suits our needs (the Ascetic Virtues fit exactly the Spartan way ), and it gives the Angels a very personal sign not to try and cross us, ever, on any matter.

If we let them get off easy (maybe we should, but I am against), they will not be afraid of doing things behind our back. Not good with the soon-to-be-second contender for the win. Remember, they were told earlier we wanted full control of Zak's deals, so it is not as though we surprised them requiring this.
          Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

This (running foul of the Angels) is a pretty large policy shift, so let's run a poll

In line with our new democratic institutions.

Some suggested amendments in case we'd want to go through with an Angel policy change:

Colonel Googlie strode back into the Conference chamber, and took his seat, looking visibly annoyed.

He rose, and addressed the Conference:

"The Federation has an announcement to make:

We will honour a Truce between the Federation and the Gaian Union, provided we have their acceptance of rights of passage through the canal separating Hive lands from Gaian lands, if ever these waters should again fall under Gaian control."

The Colonel turned to look squarely at the Conference chairman:

"But we are perturbed at the duplicity of the Data Angels. Even as they twist interpretations regarding the Federation's right to control access to the University Protectorate, they are, behind our backs, negotiating deals with terrorist organizations within the University. We find that conduct unacceptable, and advise all parties that this action has abrogated any deals or agreements made between the Federation and the Data Angels.

We withdraw from this Peace Conference, as we cannot sit here in good heart while the 'neutral' chairman is deceiving us behind our backs. We will work out further details of peace treaties in bilateral negotiations with the respective factions."

Btw, we certainly can't post this message before the Angels have played their turn. Otherwise they could 'strike first' and eg get Cyberethics or so from the University before we have the chance of asking Zak to declare war on the Angels.

I like the changes - very Kruschevian

And I agree, too, that we'd best wait until it's our 2171 turn before we storm out of the Conference, lest the A's do get cosy with Lal or Zak

I think the DA's are just trying to get something out of this meeting before it finishes since they started the peace process and they feel everyone owes them a little "recognition".

                  EDIT:

damn high command gets all the inside information

Well, technically SApareta started it - Kassiopeia asked GeoModder if he'd be willing to chair it, 'cos we felt that we were ready for peace
