Disabling the firewall would probably work for Maniac too.

          Morgan Industries Declares War!
Contact Lost with SNC Hunter - Mind Control Device Planted by Morganite Observer Suspected

          by Major Kassiopeia

The first hours of Mission Year 2154 rolled by uneventfully, save for a few riots in Arcadia University roused by elements of the UOP militia. Everything changed at 0200 hours however, as the commlink between the Maritime Control Centre and the scout vessel SNC Hunter, out on an exploration mission in the western seas, suddenly and inexplicably was terminated.

Later analysis of radio traffic and chatter has revealed the cause of this: the entire crew of the Hunter has apparently struck the colours of the ship and hoisted a Morganite flag. The only possible explanation for such behaviour is the employ of energy-demanding mind control technology, which is a common weapon in the arsenals of the elusive Probe Teams. A Morganite observer onboard the Hunter, identified only as "Mr. Moneypenny", is suspected of placing a mind control device on the ship.

While this loathable act of aggression in itself was casus belli enough for the Federation, Morgan Industries saw it fitting to continue on their path of aggression. After first thoroughly emptying and vacating their embassy in Sparta Command, their ambassador delivered to Major Kassiopeia, head of diplomacy, an official declaration of war. This was enough to allow us to surmise that indeed, the Morganites had in a most dishonourable manner robbed an entire sea-going vessel and the souls of its crew.

The entire crew is in our hearts and minds right now, as will their loved ones. Their fate is horrible beyond imagination: unwillful servitude under a self-appointed master. The Spartan technology division is trying to find a way to undo this deed when the time comes, but it is probable that the only chance of salvation for our brethren will be to perish in combat against their own brothers.

Morgan Industries shall never be forgiven for doing this despicable atrocity to the crew and those of us who remain. Never.

The excuse for war provided by the greedy Morganites is ridiculous at best: their claim is that the Hunter has violated the Modo Doctrine and thus the virginity of their shorelines. The hypocritical Morgan Industries never acknowledged the Modo Doctrine in the first place, and Hunter was sent into that area to negotiate a mutual ratification of the Doctrine. Morgan Industries is hereby declared guilty of the high crime of conducting an unjust war of aggression.

well, their little exhibition of gunboat terrorism will cost them - not only lost revenues from us, but also the base that the Hunter was homed to - Paramiria - went into drone riots (military ship away from a base) and they had to turn a worker into a doctor to cope. But the result is that the base will lose a pop to hunger next turn!! see below:

Short term "teach thoise so and so's a lesson" plan:

Load up the Mercury with 4 Elite Impact Rovers, and send it, shadowed by AU's cruiser. SCC GeneralTacticus, to Morgan soil.

Objective: capture and obliterate the bases housing the PTS (Morgan Industries), the HGP (Impaler Polymers) and the PEG (Scorpi Ski Resort)

Then reload to the Mercury and return (or not, as the case may be - by then we might have an army of hoplites and Crypteia to hold captured bases)

Whoa! What is going on here?! Why would they be doing this?? I assume they were fearful of our strength and decided to strike first, though probing a laser foil certainly isn't much of an initiative ... I don't really have any time to comment this any further right now, but I will be back in a few hours.

BUT, let's be cautious of announcing this in a newspaper. The other humans may decide that this is a nice time to declare war as well.

Snoddasmannen - perhaps a late to pull back on that now. However any faction with two eyes would be able to see the change of diplomatic stance in-game anyway (at least I presume so), and the Morganites have most likely told of the others of this already anyway, so I think keeping it hidden isn't going to achieve anything. To the contrary, instead of trying to keep quiet, we should go out and keep talks up with the Gaians and Angels and to make sure they don't try to set up an alliance of some sort.

Our former mentions of the Morganites being in a position to attain a winning position should only be further fortified by their aggressive stature, "oh no! the morganites are after us! they'll be after you soon, too!" It'd be an entirely different ballgame had we opened the first shot. I think they've made a fatal mistake.

I also think that we should keep the AI pactmates out of this. I see no use in pulling them in quite yet, the Morganites might only try to take advantage of "a free war".

Alright, yes maybe you're right. I suppose the Gaians and the Angels will have a long discussion now, trying to figure out who to support in this war.

I humbly suggest we have another high level summit with the Angel/Gaian axis, and try to iron out a plan. Let's put all our old grief with the Gaians aside. I could even send a formal apology to Illuminatis for being so misled as to mistrust them.

And also, is it really legal for the Morgans to inform the other teams of this? I thought no communication was allowed before the teams met? Even the extra Morgan bulletin was borderline to me ...

The Morganites do not have direct communications connections with the other two, no, not to my knowledge. It's actually quite surprising of them to go war at this stage - maybe they're trying to use the Hunter to gain contact with the others?

Oh, and I think we might want to discuss the bulletin with the mods, even. The bulletin tells of an embassy being emptied, an embassy lead by Mead. Mead has been the one in charge of Spartan affairs, and he has not probably interacted as a diplomat with the other factions. Even if he has, the Gaians and Angels ought to have enough brain cells to realize that the only ones the Morganites could have an embassy with are... the Spartans. And why empty the embassy if not to declare vendetta? It's pretty much the same as just saying "we've gone vendetta against the Spartans". (And, I have to agree, without the bulletin I would have been more careful not to publish a special edition to declare the war officially to everyone else.)

Well they also have an embassy with the Hive, the University and the Peacekeepers. Regardless of that, I consider it a bit careless of them to announce it like that, even though for sure no malice is intended.

I also think we should have a chat with the mods.
