  • Why would they do that? We'll get contact with them either way, except that the Angels would be doing the paying if that were the case.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

    • Perhaps Googlie means the Gaians are trying to get paid two times?
While clever, I'm not sure such a move would be beneficial for the Gaian-Spartan/Angel relations.

      • No - I mean that the Gaians would get 50 ec's - 25 from us for the Angels' commlink and also 25 from the Angels for our commlink

Have you never done that in a PBEM (or even a single-player game) It's a neat trick if you can get away with it, but the timing is crucial - we pay at the end of 2141 for the link in advance and the Angels get the 2142 turn right after the Gaians, so by the time the 2142 turn reaches us with the commlink, the Angels might already be hailing us, but it's too late for us to do anything as the Gaians will have 'cashed our cheque"

        • Ooooh. How clever and devious. Obviously something we should be doing We'd have to tell about it to the Angels, of course, and I think that'd turn out to do more damage to their relations than that extra 25 ec is worth.

Why thanks. A problem now is though that I can't access the turn during the week when I'm in Gent, while that's rather important for build orders (knowing the mineral production, calculating the hurry cost etc). I hope though that problem could be solved in a few weeks, as I plan to buy a laptop to take to Gent. Then I can download the turn at my faculty's network node, and use the laptop to have a quiet look at the turn in my room.

              Quite

When we do decide to sell the PK's and Uni's commlinks to the other teams we should also call Lal and Zak and try to sell the human teams' ones to them

              • I see that Snowflake was talking about Jamski. He's on our team presently. I've seen only a couple of posts by him. Anybody have an idea if he's still interested in us?

And he sounds familiar to me...

Could he be JaMiaM from ACOL?

Sorry. I just saw this. (I am currently doing a review of all of todays posts.) If it's not too late - yes I am interested!

No! That's us! Let us not lie.

                • Jamski doesn't have a good Internet connection yet. He's supposed to get broadband soonish, he may then re-evaluate his participation.

                  • Yay! So the Gaian trade went through after all! Woohoo! And they seem to have forgiven the protocol switch. Would it be okay for me to say something like this in the embassy forum:

"Yay! I personally am thrilled that our two factions were able to reach an agreement. The fact that you were willing to forgive the late addition to the trade protocol and continue with the negotiations shows that you are committed to working together with us. I see this as cause for much optimism as far as future relations go."

Civ IV is digital crack. If you are a college student in the middle of the semester, don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'm serious.

                    • I'd rather see "addition to the trade protocol" rather than "switch of the ..." , otherwise I've no problems with your posting something along those lines.

"switch" has the connotation of our changing our minds, flighty, maybe even petulent, whereas 'addition to" has overtones of a more sombre second look at what we were offering and with the greatest gravitas deciding we had to have an addendum (wow - how pompous that just sounded as I read it back)

But don't forget that we're (actually, you are, as R-112's CO) doing them a huge favor with their injured mindworm in getting our rover out of their way to let them heal and upgrade at a monolith that I'm now convinced they didn't even know was there. Plus, we're giving them the intel that a Hive base is likely to be founded, with no defender, just 2 tiles away.

So I'm not inclined to be too sucky to them

                      • Okay, I edited it as you wished and made it slightly less sucking-up-ish by omitting a portion of it.

                        • Just read it - looks good abd friendly (setting up for the "good cop - bad cop" routine, maybe??)

                            • Since Illuminatis sent me that PM (see the 2141 turn thread), I have an excellent opportunity to reply to him personally, being rather more candid than possible through the forum (the forum might be regulated by my senior officers). I have a good opportunity to play bad cop here, which would be really fun. Curse at them and tell them that when I seize power of the foreign office from that wimp Kassiopeia (ledsen Kass ) they will all feel the wrath of our impact rovers etc ...

This would probably not affect the game itself greatly, but would be a fun sub-plot and it might give the Gaians something to talk about And remember, I'm a newbie here, they have no idea who I am, they might think I'm serious.

Any thoughts on this little drama?

                              • I like the sound of it. It would also, possibly, give as a backdoor we could use in case we want to go vendetta on them - just try to make them think that there's been a "restructuring of powers" in the Junta, or something. Would certainly add a bit of spice to the game.

I wonder how they would react, yes, the fact that you'd appear to be no one "important" wouldn't make them TOO worried or angry over it, but somewhat still. And they might be more friendly towards us knowing that if the co-operation between them and the current Junta won't work, they might be looking down the barrel of an Impact rifle very soon.
