            • in response...

              1) I'm concerned how we can launch a Blitz strike w/our current mineral/energy rates.

              2) My early game Strike Package usually consists of a 3-Rover Batallion with a Scout Rover to hold the captured city until a Scout Patrol is built. This Package assumes transporting 4-units per trannie, and I believe we still have 2-unit slow pokes.

              3) Ergo, that's why I generaly wait until I get Cruiser and Missile Weps before I attack. (However, I will immediately attack known hostiles on my front porch. Miriam is a good example).

              4) I know SeaPods are costly, but consider how 2-Sea Bases right off PK's coast could exploit the mineral and energy nuts that would literally fuel our military production.

              5) Besides Global Reach, Sea Bases are very hard to defeat w/o sustained Sea/Air attack. In this game scenario, only the Uni will build boats of semi-signifigance. The other factions just don't do it.

              6) This is my first Diplomacy game, so I don't know the usual game length. Do factions even get to Shard?

              First Spear...

                Well... We can't.
Unless we blitz one enemy base at a time. Consolidate our gain. Then blitz another one.

Whatever works. But, as everything in SMAC. This depends on the situation. There are just too many variables to explain everything. I would have to type for months, and then, I still wouldn't be able to cover it all.
Have you been to the SMAC Academy at CGN? There's an article explaining early game momentum tactics/strategy. Also, I remember that Vel's guide had covered it somewhat. But even he, can't cover everything.
Personally; sometimes I strike with probes as my main assault units. Acquiring whatever the enemy has built himself as my strile troops. At the other end of the spectrum; drop/shard/hovertanks with nerve gas cannisters can work wonders...

Good point. And especially as Sparta. Drop/missile/elite/infantry can be a game breaker for them.

Sea bases cannot cultivate resources on land squares if they are within enemy territory. The PK's will surely have the continent within their borders.
Another thing; consider that we could build 7 formers for that cost. If you want to also have a garrison unit, a probe defender, and 2 facilities; we could have an additional 13 formers (at the very least). With that kind of forming power, we could build a land bridge to another continent. Or... We could send over 14 probe teams to an enemy continent. Which seems more appealing now?

There are three other human factions in the game also. There are IoD's, and sea lurks that dispose of garrisons, destroy facilities, and kill 1,000 population per attack.
Sea bases are really tough to get going early. Later on, when you have a large empire to supply / provision sea bases, they become viable. My opinion, of course.

My first Democracy Game also. But it is still a MP PBEM game. Only thing is that there are several people involved in the decision making.
That depends, concerning shard weaponry. But PBEM games are usually decided by the time of DAP and/or MMI technologies. Also depends a lot on how the alliances between the human factions have developed.

This is what it means to be a Spartan. It's not the killing or the suffering that matters. It's the purity of focus, without fear of death or pain.
