  • Well, we don't have to know quite yet, except for whether to move the scout up there.....

How about we play the turn and move the scout in that direction? This will buy us some safety and time to decide while getting the turn moved in the right direction. As it is July 4, there won't be many other speakers of the house tonight.

I'd like to play it by 6:00 GMT July5, but will wait of course.

    • Checking up from my vacation.

I've played games where I never pop pods not adjacent to bases. In those games, I have NEVER popped worms from pods. My proposal would be to pop that pod with the scout, after queueing up a former (in case of a free rush).

      • Good reminder on the rush possibilities. What do people have as the priorities for this sneaky little 'We are well prepared' feature?

I propose, as they become available via tech, this priority for queuing up before a pod popping (all nearby bases..it's always the closest...with some caveats).:
        • Recycling Tanks
        • Recreation Commons (if near size three)
        • Network Node
        • Probe, unless we have minerals for
        • Former, unless we need a
        • Garrison

Hope you are having a great vacation,

        • Forgot to mention all the various armored crawlers, which definately get priority if we are building any SPs, or plan to.

          • I suggest moving scout northwards as well then. , so that we can finish this game.

              • Agreed. Move the scout to join the base & rush the formenr for 9 EC's.

                • You can move it now if you wish, we can now plan next turn.

                    • Plant new base
                    • Move new former to ?
                    • move scout to ? pop pod ?
                    • start a scout at the new base or perhaps another former.

                    • Should we road bases, or go and build solar collector? I guess several turns of advantage when moving CP would be good. Also, I will submit test results tommorow. Can I urge us to decide everything as soon as possible, to speed up the game a bit?

                      • Those who advocated building a former over a scout patrol rationalized that it was imperative to lay down a forest ASAP. While it is true that a forest would allow us a small degree of micro-managing, I think both roads and solar collectors are higher priorities. Roads offer turn advantage in planting bases but we haven't explored enough to know where our 3rd base should go. We know exactly where to build the solar collector and speaking as The Lord of Progress, that's my choice.
I would prefer roading to prepare base planting but it's not clear that we gain by that here.

                        • If we road, we'll have just enough time to make a road 3 tiles long, I think. That would save 2 turns on the 3rd CP moving to site. On the other hand, the former could move east, allowing us to view the rest of our base radius and do road-forest (6 turns) in that drier part of the slope.

                          • Saving up turns for CP shall helps us when our third base starts contributing earlier. Besides, we won't use that forest for some time.

                            • After testing possible pod reslts only one thing is certain: I never encountered MWs or fungal blooms. However, game mechanism seems to lock for a range of 2-5 possible results. So in first instance results alternated between Unity Rover and unsuccessful move. In other instance - it was cloning unit, AA or unsuccessful move. Also, it seems that the fact if other pods have been popped has a direct effect on this results, causing it to change possible results. Even other factions pod popping influences this. In average, 48 percent of attempts will result in unsuccessful move. Other 52 percent is purely random.

                              • Thanks for the tests Obstructor. I know that took some time. Now we have some data to move on. It looks like we should plant the base and then attempt to move onto the pod with the scout. 50/50 chance of not making it. But perhaps we will.

By the way, should I be posting savegames to our topped thread and then post a 'after hitting end turn' save to the main forums? Will do.
