    Hydro:

Vel gives us the basics in his strat guide:

    Arid or flat: forest
Moist rolling or wet rolling: farm and solar
Rocky in base resource area: borehole
Rocky outside of base area: mine
Sensor in base hex, if this doesn't delay base construction
    All bases connect by roads
Roads constructed BEFORE sending out pods, is possible
Condensor where moist to get wet

Rocky in base that is flat:
    HongHu:

Ok here's a few of my preference

Sensor every base before it is built
road and gang terraform using multiple formers
farm+condensor in rainy squares and nut bonus squares, two of these per base in mid game, and cluster them together since condensor will make moist squares rainy
    Mine+road rocky squres
    forest river squares
If have WP, borehole the mineral/energy squares before restriction lifting

    I almost never do farm+solar.
    Net Warrior:

I agree almost completely with HongHu. My only quibble is with sensoring every base. If we can sensor them, fine, but don't delay a build just for that. We should plan well in advance so that we can have a sensor for every base but sometimes things happen.
    obstructor:

Ah, but one of advantages of Gaians is fast spreading and growth. We should make expansion a priority, and if we can build a sensor before base, good, but if not, turn advantage is more important
    HongHu:

I agree totally. Building a sensor should not delay our expansion. Especially the first four or five bases may not need sensors. We won't have enough formers for the job, they likely don't need sensors also since they will likely not be in the outside of our territory.

After we set up these bases and considers further expansion, we should always keep in mind to prepare the future base sit as much as possible.

Might I just ask - why is this? Also surely farm + solar is useful before you get to Tree Farms to enable you to have +2 nut tiles in the early going. Without these you don't grow.

We have tons of 2-nutrient tiles around our starting location. Farms aren't useful until Gene Splicing (or with condensors).

I quite agree, from the small glimpse of the map I have seen so far. But I mean in general. Surely farms + solars would be useful if we didn't have so many rainy tiles....?

Monoliths can also be good sources of 2 nutrients, and a single nutrient special will provide a city with enough food to last until condensor-farms. We've been guiding our expansion towards rainy tiles rather than making our own 2-nut tiles with farms. If the whole area around our start were sub-rainy, we'd probably have a few farms.

We have WP, so let's use both condensers and boreholes in the name of Planet!

I tend to think that condensers, although they make some eco damage, should be listed as planet friendly constructs because of their ability to aid both wildlife and human grown crops..
Fungus doesn't get any bonuses though..

Fungus can grow as result of ecodamage so we are sort of helping fungus to expand (although we should be smart to watch on ecodamage)

                YES! Let's define it so!
And if someone asks why, we say that we're just aiding planet's growth!

This is the way I look at it. The Gaians are the champions of Planet. We will do the right thing for Planet, unlike the other factions. If we lose to the other factions, their reckless treatment of Planet will continue. OTOH, once the Gaians win, and the others are subdued, we can smash up the condensers, fill up the boreholes, and plant fungus across the whole planet.

So if we have to defend Planet by drilling boreholes now to compete, then so be it. It is a temporary measure, a means to an end. War is hell, and the rulebook goes out the door.

So build a condenser, and drill a borehole for Planet's sake.

Uh, this sounds like Planet Cult (when we win, we will tear down the boreholes and mines). But we do need to use every advantage we have.

My general guideline for the Gaians is that if it causes eco damage, it is bad. So, mines and boreholes are OK, but only to a point.

Otherwise the Gaians are saying: It's OK, honey. I'll only rape you a little bit.
