I agree with mart7x5 on the biggest mistake was not changing to FM earlier. I've been playing the DA's in a SP game (playing the DA' in the ACDG whetted my appetite). FM makes a big difference.
In the CMN forum, there is a post after the 2102 turn, where one of the CMN predicts the possibility of winning.
In order: DA, Morgen, Spartans, Gaians.
Later, in the same CMN forum, there is a post analyzing what the Spartans did right. One of the factors was extremely good combat unit micromanagement.
The Spartans are to be congratulated for extremely good play.
