  • Aquatic or land: take two

    The previous poll concerning aquatic options ended in a near fifty-fifty result. So no matter if we go fully land or aquatic, half of the participants is going to be disappointed. Therefore I was thinking of a compromis proposal: how about if most factions (we one of them) start on land, but we all have the aquatic ability (making sea bases not worthless compared to land bases). That would be the best guarantee to have both the sea and land aspects of the game well represented.

    What do you think about this?

    Still prefer aquatic and 70% - 90% ocean.
    It would be like a contest for control off the seas in the 18th/19th century but with modern vessels and retarded airpower ( maybe the odd balloon).

      Compromise, on the condition that the amount of land is low (30-10%)

        full aquatic. no land. at all. if there's even a little, the AI will just raise it. land will just give us another advantage - boreholes.

            in regular SMAC you can't, because aquatic factions only exist in SMAX. I tried an all aquatic game in regular SMAC, and i ended up having to start all factios on 1 tile of land, otherwise everyone dies in 2101

                  I like the idea of an aquatic battle, but not the idea of having a rather dull map to work with. The little terrain adds another twist to the game (with boreholes and such)

                    Compromise with very little land.
                    All aquatic just makes a boring map
                    <Kassiopeia> you don't keep the virgins in your lair at a sodomising distance from your beasts or male prisoners. If you devirginised them yourself, though, that's another story. If they devirginised each other, then, I hope you had that webcam running.

                              The frequency of comments seems to slow down. Would a good representative summary be:

                              All factions will be aquatic.
                              We should have 70 to 90% ocean. (sorry Method)
                              Strings of long narrow islands dividing the map into a few distinct oceans, with "panamacanal" sites where cities can be built to function as canals between seas.

                              Is this opinion shared by a majority? Other possibilities could for example be that each faction starts with both a land CP and a sea CP.

                              What does "retarded air power" mean btw?
