Actually I think you overestimate the Consciousness. Personally I consider the Cybernetic advantages smaller than the UoP's (free network nodes!), Pirates' (aquatic bonus!) and Hive's (PS-Planned without a problem, huge industry bonus!).

As I read it, this guys wants to show the other guys some moves. When they drop out of the game having done that, there will be what amounts to another Hive with better prod run by the AI. Take a guess at who benefits most from that.

Perhaps... but the Cybernetic Consciousness is fun to roleplay!
Besides, they do have their advantages (although the fact that they're a race of Cyborgs who don't get free network nodes kind of erks me). In any case, I don't think a merge would be a good idea. The reason I joined the CyCon was to join a research-based faction without unbalancing the game by creating one faction with a whole hoard of members.
But you still won't beat us... you cannot compete with perfection.

Remember, too, that with spoils turned off, only the CyCon get the techsteal ability when conquering a base.

I'm sure the Cycon is more likely to ally with the Hive than with the UoP - aren't they a breakaway faction from the opression of Zak and his minions - aren't they sensible people/robots who apperciate a well ordered, planned society?

Actually, read the SMACX manual - they were created from a Hive computer sub-routine, with nothing whatever to do with the UoP

Well, I'm sure you're technology was in there somewhere. But yes, perfection and telepathy does seem more totalitarian Hive traits. And yes, we are the only ones with techsteal Else we would really suck!

The Cybernetic Consciousness
This faction is led by a mysterious figure from Unity who has apparently been part of an experiment in artificial intellegence. It is surmised a reserch technician working for Prokhor Zakharov was subjected to an implanted AI algorithm, and is now sharing her consciousness with this intelligence. Etc....

Though from the story, it's rather plain to see that while a Hive Computer joined a dead PK Talent to make a Cyborg, there were others beforehand. In the extended SMAX story which you can download from Firaxis, the UoP and Cyborgs allied against the Cult and Drones to try and protect the Alien Temple, before the Pirates stole part of the Temple being transported back to University Base.
