I think playing it would actually be better (and I tell that even if I'm much better at planning then at RP).
But the quality of the DG would of course be closely related to the amount of time we put on preparing it...
We can spend some weeks to planify a game that wil last 6-24 monts!

There can be two simultaneous demogames but you should be careful - you would need to ensure enough interest for both of them or one of them will dwindle in the favour of another.
