      Brazil is pretty neato.

They get +1 adjacency bonus for campus and faith districts next to rainforest. Combine that with the civics that increase those by 100% and you can get yourself a campus pumping out 12 science per turn... before even building library or anything.

      It might even be OP.

I thought it was an excellent review. Thank you Sava.

One criticism that stands. Trade unit and spy unit micromanagement is terrible.

Is it worse than Caravans in II?

And thanks again for the thorough write ups. I read those at CFC and have no idea who to believe.

Those bloody caravans . . . I mainly recall stockpiling them to rush-build wonders as soon as the tech became available, and endlessly trying and failing to get one to its destination before supply-and-demand shifted. Of course, I didn't know how to use them properly; veterans told me I should have been hurling them about willy-nilly to get an undocumented beaker bonus. Because that was the optimal way to play a game in the late nineties.

I have to admit, I was skeptical about IV when it came out, mostly because it had so much in common with the odious III. So maybe VI will be an improvement in the long run. But I don't think I'll ever like 1UPT.

I had forgotten about the changing supply and demand.

The worst was our population record attempts that depended on sending food caravans. Each one would fill up half the food bin. Each turn would take an hour. And I knew I couldn't JUST break the record, I had to demolish it because I knew if I didn't Ming would break my record within days. Sometimes having a twin is not a good thing.

It was like Lucy and the football: okay, Oxford has wanted gems pretty consistently for the past twenty turns, and London supplies gems, and there's about forty tiles between them. I've got a good quick boat, so if I just line things up right I can get it there in less than five turns and DAMMIT THEY WANT SILVER NOW! WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS THING? And then I'd go back to reserving them for wonders. But that supply and demand list would still be there at the bottom of the city screen, taunting me . . . it knew I'd be back. The bastard.

I kind of remember that there actually was a pattern or we knew what triggered a change so after awhile that wasn't so bad. You just had to really pay attention.

But I don't remember the details anymore. It's been over a decade since I played II.

I just remember that once you built up a huge economy, diplomats became the most powerful unit in the game. I could buy entire cities from the AI. I would end up with a world spanning empire surrounding a bunch of AI city states (unless I won the space race first).

Looking back, spies really were quite OP. And infuriating, if they managed to steal something eight techs away from their current level. I remember one game where some medieval schmoes stole howitzer tech from me. Presumptively the local blacksmith was whacking the barrels into shape by hand . . .

ED BEACH'S CIVILIZATION 6 IS REALLY GREAT SO FAR, A REAL GOOD ARGUMENT TO AT LEAST LET HIM OFF EASY ON THE CHILD PORN INVESTIGATION -- HAS LOTS OF INNOVATIONS AND HIDDEN EASTER EGGS, IN FACT THE DAY-NIGHT CYCLE ACTUALLY SETTLES A LONG-RUNNING ISSUE WITH THE SERIES BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS ALWAYS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TIME SCALE OF THE TURNS, E.G. OH HOW DOES IT TAKE AN ARCHER 10 YEARS TO GET ACROSS A SMALL CHANNEL!? WELL THE ANSWER IS HERE IDIOTS ITS BECAUSE BASED ON THIS DAY NIGHT CYCLE THE EARTH ONLY ROTATES AROUND THE SUN ONCE EVERY 50 YEARS DOES ANYONE ELSE MISS THE '''LAWYER'' UNIT FROM ACTIVISION'S CIVILIZATION CALL TO POWER TRADEMARK INFRINGEMENT EDITION? BASICALLY ONCE YOU UNLOCK JUDAISM YOU CAN SPAM SMUG-FACED BRIEFCASE CARRYING LAWYERS WHO COULD MARCH THROUGH THE MAP AND WAVE THEIR LEGAL PADS AND ISSUE 'INJUNCTIONS' AGAINST ENEMY CITIES, BRINGING PRODUCTION TO A HALT WHILE THE FRIVILOUS LITIGATION WAS SETTLED BY YOUR OWN COUNSEL, TO MY KNOWLEDGE BASED ON THE UNOFFICIAL COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT EDITION OF THE ACTIVISION CIVILIZATION CALL TO POWER TRADEMARK INFRINGEMENT EDITION STRATEGRY GUIDE, THE ONLY COUNTERS TO THIS WERE EITHER UNLOCKING ISLAM, OR USING YOUR PLANES TO CARPET BOMB THE ENEMY LAWYER ARMIES AS THEY APPEARED ON THE HORIZON

LAWYER UNIT OR NOT BASED ON HOW GOOD CIV 6 IS, AND AGAIN ASSUMING THE FBI CAN'T MAKE ANYTHING STICK, (LOL LOOKS LIKE BEACH NEEDS A LAWYER UNIT ) I WOULD SAY THERE IS ONLY A 5-10% CHANCE ED BEACH SUFFERS THE JON SHAFER FATE AND HAS TO MOVE BACK IN WITH MOM, PUT ON THE PUPPEY EYES AND STRIP FOR MONEY ON KICKSTARTER

See, this is why Poly is essential. CFC would have handed out deletes and bans all round for honest reviews like we see in this thread

I think I will wait until it goes on sale. At like 90% off.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)
