  • G&K Half-Off on Steam

Until 11/27, Steam has the expansion going for $15.
I thought the regular price of $30 was unreasonable, and there was no way I would consider it, but at 50% I think I'll probably go for it. I'm still kinda on the fence though.
Like a lot of you, I have loved the franchise through its many incarnations, but 5 just didn't do it for me. Mainly because of the draconian 1UPT (why not 2UPT??? At least then melee units could escort ranged units).
I didn't hate Civ5- I really wanted to like it, but the fact that I haven't played it for a long time speaks for itself.
If I can finally commit to this purchase, it will be due more to the lack of good alternative empire-builder game choices than to any affection for Civ5.
Speaking of alternatives, aren't we due for Europa Universalis IV yet? :desire:

PSA: For the next 40 hours, everything Civ5 is now 75% off on Steam... base game, G&K, and all DLC too.

to buy or not to buy. to be honest I think civ5 is a bad game. the expansion improves some of those disfunctional issues, but is it enough? what I have come to realize is that I desire increasingly deep games, not increasingly shallow ones and firaxis' development strategy is going in the wrong direction. I just realized after writing this, I don't really want it. After playing xcom which was both great and flawed, I am going to conclude that I am done with firaxis' civ series. It is simply too dumbed down for what I want. the lack of activity on this thread bolsters my impression that this game is a dead one. ah well, civ was a great game for as long as it lasted. bye guys.

I agree about Civ 5... I tried, I really did, first it was the onerous system requirements. I couldnt even really play it as it was virtually unplayable until I was ready to upgrade laptops... And this was on a machine that ran Civ 4 beautifully (I still use it for Civ 4 in fact)

Then once I got a new computer, I was able to see what I was feeling all along was not because of the laptop, it was the game. It just isn't as good as Civ 4. It's a regression... TBH I dont even like the graphics all that much, because they are more realistic looking sure, but the game is so "shallow" that in a strange way, I feel like it is unworthy of the more realistic graphics. In that way the graphics come off as pretentious... like this dumbed down version of such a formerly heady game is taking itself too seriously... At least Revolutions gives you the cartoony graphics to match the gameplay

Anyway I will be sad if you are leaving Civ entirely LzPrst I just invited you to join the DoB Diplogame currently going on. You still love Civ 4 dont you?

I just bought G&K for $7.49 a few days ago in an impromptu -%75 sale. Was excited because I was intending to reinstall CiV.

          Imma happy Despot.:^)

Well, that didn't take long. I'm sure there is a comment about Civ5's lack of fun factor in there some where.
