In my recent game I have found myself on the ass end of the map relegated to island hopping (which is not my favorite scenario, I'm not a fan of Navy games). I have seen many 1 tile islands nearby that contain resources that I wouldn't mind having... marble, spices, etc etc. I am just wondering if they are worth plonking a city down on in the middle of the freaking ocean. With no supporting land tiles I can't have any supporting land/arty units to help defend in case war breaks out. So I think I would have to park a warship in or around the city at all times. Plus thinking it would take forever to get anything built without hammer resources.
Now oil/coal/uranium would probably be no brainers. But luxury resources?
I'm putting this game on the back burner until I can figure out if it's worth continuing. I don't really want to get into a series of 1 tile island cities and having to support a huge navy to defend them.
Thoughts?
