    Same here! Agree 100%
    Civ IV is way better than Civ V right now. They need some miracle expansion that fix it all.. I will not buy that expansion right away.. perhaps some download somewhere to try it or read about it first. They never going to have my money again by default. They blew that away by this game. I hope they realize that if they want to make succesfull civ games in the future.

            SMAC had it right. Sure you could stack, but if you lost a defensive battle in a non-city or bunker tile the other units would take collateral damage and could even be destroyed by that collateral damage. SMAC is still streets ahead of the Civ series on so many levels.

              I agree, sire.

              Rule 37: "There is no 'overkill'. There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload'."

                  I wonder if I still have my old SMAC cd laying around somewhere. Or maybe Steam...

                      No way that's going to run on my Win 7 rig unless I do a VM win98 box...

                        All GOG games are supposed to work fine with W7. Some might require the UAC to be tweaked though.

                          It's not so great though for army planning, army moving and army storing purposes. Getting your army lined up correctly is a micromanage nightmare! (micromanaging in the bad sense of the word

                            It's not civ1's worst feature. It's inspired by Civ1's worst feature, but then improved for 1UPT.

                            @Ming
                            the whole stack dying is up to the player to prevent. In fact it's quite easy to prevent, never keep a stack within striking distance of the enemy.
                            Firaxis could implement auto-wake up if friendly and/or enemy units come into striking distance.

                            For war-purposes it's 1UPT
                            For non-war purposes it's civ4 style

                            It's the best of both worlds.
                            You argue it b/c you apply the non-war purpose to a war situation. Players will learn to not do that as soon as they lose their first big stack.
                            I think your idea is good if you want again the bias towards the 'militaristic' strategy of the game. I am happy with the currently 1 UPT because it restored the balance towards the more peaceful (economic/technological) strategies.

                              Basically what your saying is that you can't really play peaceful game in Civ IV, not true I think. you can win of very different kind of ways. But it's the other way arround I think. We warmongers (like me) can't really play as warmonger because we have to deal with logistics problems on land and over sea. Send a huge army on a huge sea over long distances is a pain in the ass, and no fun. On land we have to puzzle to find the right way for our troops. If you want to play a huge worldwar kinda civ game... Civ IV is your game! But for peaceful players.. you can go with CIV IV and CIV V.

                                No I did not go that far. It is ironic that you refer me to CIV IV while I am the one stating that I like the current concept in CIV V and you want it changed...to what it was in CIV IV. I know change is difficult but I moved on to the new concepts. How do you expect games to evolve if not by changing substantial concepts. If you don't like that (which off course is something I respect.) than you should remain on the CIV IV franchise
